Barack Obama has chosen Tim Kaine, Governor of Virginia, to succeed Gov. Howard Dean as chair of the Democratic National Committee. But at least one question still remains when it comes to the future of the DNC: When will they reinstate the 50 State Strategy?
The 50 State Strategy will go down as one of the most successful long-term programs the Democratic National Committee has ever implemented. Not just for Pres. Elect Obama but for candidate up and down the ballot all across the country. With special elections, local mayor and city council races all coming up soon, this is one decision that can't wait any longer.
It's time to make sure Gov. Kaine knows that without organizers on the ground right now opportunities may be missed to keep Republicans on their heels. Add your name and call on Tim Kaine to immediately reinstate the 50 State Strategy and we'll make sure he gets the message.
UPDATE:
The good news is you already got his attention and, last Friday, Barack restated his support for the concept of a 50 State Strategy. Here is some of what Barack said:
"We're in a strong position to build the Democratic Party, renew our commitment to the principles we share, and continue the outstanding work of Chairman Howard Dean. Among his many achievements, Governor Dean launched a strategy to reach out to Americans in all 50 states -- north, south, east and west. This 50-state strategy helped Democrats compete in states where we hadn't in years, including states like Virginia.
Governor Kaine has seen the power of the 50-state strategy firsthand, and under his leadership, Democrats will continue to organize and compete in every corner of our country."
While that's a good start, it's not a commitment to the principals which comprise the core of the strategy.
Will Gov. Kaine commit to the core principals of the 50 State Strategy which include providing resources for increasing voter registration, maintaining a national voter file available to local parties, developing leaders at all level of office, and hiring official DNC staff in every state?
Democracy for America members got Gov. Dean elected to Chair the DNC by campaigning for the 50 State Strategy. Four years later, the strategy has lead to success after success.
We worked hard to reform the Democratic Party, now we deserve a real commitment.
President-Elect Obama and Gov. Kaine are listening. It is up to you to make sure they hear us.
