Resolution for initiation of impeachment proceedings

RESOLUTION FOR INITIATION OF IMPEACHMENT PROCEEDINGS 

 WHEREAS, President George W. Bush and Vice President Richard B. Cheney have violated the duties of their respective offices, by engaging in conduct that constitutes high crimes and misdemeanors within the meaning of Article II, Section 4 of the United States Constitution; and 

WHEREAS, their official and criminal misconduct has resulted in a dangerous expansion of executive authority, through the assumption of powers neither delegated nor intended under any appropriate interpretation of the Constitution to be exercised by the executive branch; and 

WHEREAS, it is critical to restore the constitutional balance of powers between the legislative and executive branches intended by our founders and required by the supreme law of the land; and  

WHEREAS, we can reclaim our birthright to a nation of laws founded on democratic principles, and ensure against repetition of such actions and continuing unconstitutional expansion of executive authority by succeeding presidential administrations, only by commencement of articles of impeachment to hold accountable those individuals identified above. 

NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED that the Democratic Club of Coarsegold, by unanimous vote of its membership, calls upon the membership of the United States House of Representatives to initiate impeachment proceedings against President George W. Bush and Vice President Richard B. Cheney.
