Strong, sexy, intense women stare back at you in Lina Bertucci ’s no-nonsense, deeply psychological documentary photo portraits. Her subjects are adorned in tattoos: clusters, vines, body suits. The abstract designs on wrap around shoulders, forearms and inner thighs. Bertucci’s pictures reveal a lot, but she’s quite protective of her subjects, who always come off as in control. Drawn to the contemporary subculture of tatoo art, Bertucci traveled to various tattoo conventions in the United States and abroad, photographing women ages 19 to 59 both in her studio and on location. Bertucci lives and works in New York City. Bertucci completed her M.F.A in photography at Pratt Institute in New York and received her B.F.A. from the University of Wisconsin. Bertucci in known extensively throughout the U.S. and Europe, with exhibitions at Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo Per l’Arte, Turin, Italy; P.S.1, New York; Hara Museum, Tokyo; and, the Chicago Cultural Center.

He has been called the most controversial and downright interesting graffiti artist at large in the UK today. He’s ............. the Met, MoMA, the Brooklyn Museum and the American Museum of Natural History. Recently it was announced that his images would be used to sell luxury condos in Williamsburg. And just the other day he opened his first official show in New York, at the Vanina Holasek Gallery in Chelsea. The artist in question is the infamous Banksy the most recent artist to be referred to as the next Warhol. The Holasek show includes 62 paintings and prints from both private collections and commercial galleries.
Check out these pix of the show in Chelsea, which seems a little cramped. But you’ll see Banksy’s parady of Warhol’s famous Marilyn print, featuring Kate Moss. Continuing the son-of-Warhol theme, he’s got a whole lineup of amusing soup can prints - and this coming from a man who once smuggled 500 alternative copies of Paris Hilton cd into stores. The show ends December 29th.
The Skyscraper Museum is a fantastic resource for anyone who loves architecture, especially of the multistory variety. The museum is located downtown in Battery Park City, but its web site is also full of interactive exhibits that are worth exploring. If you’re visiting the city and have an interest in learning more about the city’s most notible architecture, check out theDowntow NY Web Walk, which offers four interactive virtual walking tours through Lower Manhattan’s skyscraper canyons and more than a century of high-rise construction.

The duration of the courses is between two and six weeks, and the teachers are distinguished international artists.
