Off on the Wrong Track
The new Washington Post/ABC News poll shows that 80% of Americans think the country is heading in the wrong direction and that both Democratic candidates are preferred over John McCain:
Americans are gloomier about the direction of the country than they have been at any point in 15 years, and Democrats hold their biggest advantage since early 1993 as the party better able to deal with the nation's main problems, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.
Despite more than eight in 10 now saying the country is headed in the wrong direction, coupled with growing disaffection with the Republican Party, Sen. John McCain, the GOP's presumptive presidential nominee, remains competitive in a hypothetical general-election matchup with Sen. Barack Obama, the favorite for the Democratic nomination, and he runs almost even with Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Remember when Hillary pointed out that Obama's pledged delegates weren't required to vote for him, and that she intended to poach them? Well, the shoe is now on the other foot....
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/con tent/article/2008/05/12/AR2008051202554. html
"Prince George's County Executive Jack B. Johnson, a Democratic convention delegate pledged to support Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, said yesterday that he thinks Sen. Barack Obama has "in a real sense" won the Democratic nomination and that he now plans to support Obama at the August convention."
While it's true that there's no way to enforce a pledge, the delegates selected on the basis of the electoral totals did promise to vote on the first ballot for the person in whose name they ran.
but no tool bar to start with.
Now I can post a comment in the body rather than just the subject line. That's all...

Obama picks up two Ohio pledged delegates
Posted: Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at 10:03 a.m.
CHARLESTON, W. VA. (AP) -- Democratic presidential contender Barack Obama picked up two pledged delegates Monday from the official results of the Ohio presidential primary held March 4th.
The Associated Press had withheld the two delegates because of the large number of provisional ballots cast in Ohio on Election Day.
According to the Ohio Secretary of State's office, almost 100,000 provisional ballots were counted.

1. dog soldier thanks for the info on bird mortality a few threads ago. I am happy b/c I think wind power is a good thing. There is a place north (east?) of SF - Altamont Pass I think maybe - coming down out of Livermore - where they have a bunch of windmills. Whereas we sometimes think of windmills as being rather blighty, I remember thinking at the time that if I could paint in thick oils (or paint at all lol) I would like to paint the scene, b/c there were only 3 colors there -- the pure blue of the sky, the pure white of the windmills, and the pure gold of the summer hills. It was really beautiful.
2. I saw the KOS article on the Conyers letter. I think Conyers writes good, brave letters. But they are, alas, letters. I will be happy when someone's (Rove's?) a** is actually sitting in front of a Congressional committee, on CSPAN, UNDER OATH, getting asked some of the hard questions.
- I love birds too, but they are very delicate creatures
By Fred from Oregon on May 13, 2008 11:45 AMAnd just about anything can kill them. It is a good thing they are such great reproducers. We kept finding dead birds around our apartment complex last winter. No one could figure out why.
One got caught on a piece of string in a tree and died hanging by one foot.
Photovoltaic panels would not harm them but the chemical toxic residues in the environment from a massive photovoltaic production campaign might kill a lot more than birds.
There is no non-toxic solution to our energy needs but there are definitely much less toxic alternatives than what we have now.
- Congressman Donnelly Backs Senator Barack Obama for President
By Indy Steve on May 13, 2008 11:31 AMThis is entirely due to Obama's ground operations which resulted in Obama winning the most populous county (St. Joseph) in the District, 53-47. WE took on the Dem insiders and won!
“Today, I am pleased to announce my support for Barack Obama. At a time when too many Americans have lost faith in their government, Senator Obama can move us beyond the politics of stalemate and gridlock that has kept us from meeting the monumental challenges of our time: our dependence on foreign oil, a health care gap that leaves tens of millions uninsured, the steady deterioration of our manufacturing base, and an economy that is not working for working people.

By Indy Steve on May 13, 2008 11:32 AMLink to statement. Donnelly is Rep. for IN-02. He's a conservative Bluedog Dem.
Indy Steve -
Yes, great news about Donnelly.
However, as you can see above, it looks like Ohio has finished counting it's provisional ballots, and Obama has gained two pledged delegates.
In regards to Indiana, is the provisional counting still going on ?
(in referring to the Indiana state link you provided here last Thurs, it shows the site being updated but the numbers for Clinton and Obama have not changed):

I don't know if any ballot counting is still going on. But I believe they have ten days after the election before certifying, so we should know final count by Friday. I don't think any change in pledged delegates will change. But the superD's are coming. And perhaps some switches too, as they realize they want to be behind the winner.
The DNC blog is like molasses on Vermont winter morning this morning
amongst SDs who have endorsed, Obama leads in the following categories (Senators, Representatives, Governors, Add-ons) whilst Clinton leads in (dem party leaders and in DNC members):
