David Walker Left GAO in March 2008
An aside from Peter Slen on Washington Journal (CSPAN) this morning to Bill Bixby of the Concord Coalition gave me my first news that David Walker had left his post as head of GAO to head the Peter Peterson Foundation. I've long been a fan of Mr. Walker because he seemed to be 'telling it like it is' as Comptroller General of the USA, even when his news was not always good. Although I've long suspected Republican leanings, I believe Bill Clinton appointed him, and he reminds me of our Howard in his dogged belief in fiscal soundness and responsiblity. His new job doesn't make clear any political leanings, although his choice of time to leave the Government lead me to suspect he may not want to be part of what we hope will be a Democratic tidal wave in November. And reading between the lines, I fear if not a Republican, perhaps a 'Corporatist' shading to the man's views, I do so wish he would be part of the 'new America' that I believe our Howard started and for which Obama has so brilliantly taken up the standard -- ie, that we are ONE AMERICA with many problems for which we need blue, red, and purple folks to join together with great leadership to solve. Here are some links for David Walker if you are wondering who the H I'm talking about.

- I'm not sure why that huge space is there. I only had 2 lines between the picture and the link.

Alas, that was a promise unfullfilled. John Edwards was right. There are two Americas, and they've grown farther apart since Howard made that idealistic statement.
Thankful, you are truly on the ball with both of your comments as well as being first:)
I guess he's seen enough cynical knee-slappin
-- and now waiting for Edwards supporters on Hillary's blog to start coming here ?
"[W]aiting for Edwards supporters on Hillary's blog to start coming here."
It will be a long wait. The Edwards' group who hopped on Clinton's bandwagon now regard Edwards as Benedict Arnold. If you're jumping ship, you have to test positively for myopia and amnesia before you're granted permission to board the S.S. Clinton. Ask Linda in NM.

By Denise in San Mateo County on May 14, 2008 10:34 PM EDTNot only that, but be nice to them and even apologize. Still glad I didn't jump into either pond.
Skimming threads and now off to dance.
Congrats to JE and BO. JE for VP if not Howard.
We shall see..............
Got a nice note from Barack about his good friend Edwards. The emails from the obama campaign are always so polite. It's a matter of tone.
Started trying to get on a little after 8 this morning. Rebooted maybe five times, thinking it might be me. Pages would *never* finish loading.
Spent some time at scoop (Kos) ~~ neat comment box there: allows spell checker, but also allows bold, italic, etc.
Oh, well. . . .
Discussing the Hillary win.
And I've been arguing with rednecks and Clintonista, with some Obama support as well but I was limited to 50 posts/day. Then no more posting until the next day. I guess they are talking about midnight to midnight. That's where I got the news about Edwards about 3 hours ago.
I apologize for posting in the thread and then having the same post on the front page - I didn't know what I was doing. Oh well, we never worry about the main posts anyway. LOL
Great news about Edwards and NARAL too.
sure did a good job in their state last night. Good for them.
I have never forgotten when Begala said that on TV...right out in the open.
Begala had it wrong about the 50 state plan and about those "nose-pickers" in MS

I did not past large font. What a weird blog....you just never know. At least the link is clickable.
.
Anybody but Hillary Clinton for VP. Over half the Democrats rejected her. Moderate Repubs can't stand her. Hillary and Bubba need to disappear into the background. If Hillary wants to stay in the race and burn up more of her own money then have at it. She is already 20 mil in the hole. There is still a chance that she can get the nomination if:
1 - Obama really screws up which is unlikely to happen.
2 - Another blue dress is found and an Obama bimbo is found - never happen as Michelle would have killed him long ago.
3 - Hillary runs the table in the remaining primaries.
4 - Hillary gets all the Florida and Michigan delegates. That isn't going to happen either.
The time has passed for her graceful, classy exit. The longer she stays in, the more ridiculus she appears. I enjoy seeing her be pounded daily by the press. When she is finaly ground to dust, maybe she will do the only smart thing left which is boot Bubba's ass out the door.
Forget about Edwards for VP. He was no great shakes as the VP candidate for Kerry.
Dog, Hill doesn't have a graceful or classy bone in her body. If she did, she might actually be winning this. . . . All grace and class resides in Senator Obama.
the mean, condescending attitude and name calling. Just like calling Hillary supporters all those names you all have been.
I'd say Hillary has alot more class than Obama or Michelle could ever hope for. And you can say, attack all you want, but their own actions show that. What, Michelle, "I'm finally proud of my country", "You can't run the White House if you can't run your own house", "I want to pull [Bills] eyes out". Oh yes, exemplifies class. lol
YOu all better hope it's Hillary who is the nominee, because the kind of supporters Obama has attracted with their attitutudes, finished off any chance of him getting enough support to win the GE.
please feel free to continue with your typical abusive programming.
President Hillary!
I've been defending you for months. And your right to be here. Sorry you don't feel the same.
I haven't changed my stand on the Clintons since 1992: they are DLC (read: Republican). And after Kerry, I declared I wuz done with weevils. And Hill is definitively a weevil.
There is another rule. The public plays no part. The public is the audience; the audience does not write or cast the play. In 1988, the 1992 play was already being cast. Conservative Democrats were holding strategy meetings at the home of party fund-raiser Pamela Harriman. The meetings -- eventually nearly a hundred of them -- were aimed at ending years of populist insurrection within the party. They were regularly moderated by Clark Clifford and Robert Strauss, the Mr. Fixits of the Democratic mainstream. Democratic donors paid $1000 to take part in the sessions and by the time it was all over, Mrs. Harriman had raised about $12 million for her kind of Democrats.
The play was also being cast by a group that called itself the Democratic Leadership Council. Although lacking any official role in the Democratic Party (and often appearing more a Democratic Abandon Ship Council), the DLC claimed it was the voice of mainstream party thought. In fact, it was primarily a lobby for the views of southern and other conservative Democrats, yet so successful was its media manipulation that it managed with impunity to call its think tank the Progressive Policy Institute.

More. . . . (same link)
Of course, you can argue about such things, but there was something else - also unreported - that you couldn't argue about: the disintegration of the Democratic Party itself. An analysis I did in 1998 found that during Clinton's administration, the Democrats had lost:
- 48 seats in the House
- 8 seats in the Senate
- 11 governorships
- 1,254 state legislative seats
- Control of 9 legislatures
In addition 439 elected Democrats had joined the Republican Party while only three Republican officeholders had gone the other way.
While Democrats had been losing state legislative seats on the state level for 25 years, the loss during the Clinton years was striking. In 1992, the Democrats controlled 17 more state legislatures than the Republicans. After November 2000, the Republicans controlled one more than the Democrats. It was the first time since 1954 that the GOP had controlled more state legislatures than the Democrats (they tied in 1968). Among other things, this gave the Republican more control over redistricting.
In fact, no Democratic president since the 19th century suffered such an electoral disintegration of his party as did Clinton.
who seek change...
must tip our hat,
if not be gracious,
to the suppoerters of Hillary.
Wh should we not seek sister/brotherhood with other Independents, disaffected Republicans, and hard core Democrates?
Set aside your bias and distain!
This is a maverick?
