Massa vs. Kuhl Debate Cancelled

Massa agreed to debate Kuhl at Elmira College's Gibson Theater on October 21. But, when called Wednesday, a Kuhl spokesman said the congressman has still not changed his mind. Kuhl said he would only debate if both sides received an equal number of tickets to hand out, with no seats for the general public.
 
Congressman stresses need for more work on bailout plan

Kuhl, a Republican, is running for re-election in New York's 29th district against democrat Eric Massa. Massa says he too would have voted against the bailout plan and would only support one that creates an independent group to oversee bailout spending.
 
 
Wyden, Merkley agree bailout bill is bad

Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., was one of only 10 Democrats to vote against the financial bailout package Wednesday night, saying it was flawed because it doesn't help struggling homeowners, doesn't put new regulatory protections into place and is too kind to wealthy investors.  At about the same time Wyden was casting his vote - and after seeing Sen.Gordon Smith, R-Ore., vote for it - Oregon Democratic candidate Jeff Merkley put out a statement [which I'm running after the jump] announcing that he was also against it.

The National Republican Senatorial Committee is running a new ad charging that Democratic candidate Jeff Merkley "wanted to give much of our tax refunds back to the government."
