Experience Speaks- Thoughts of a 103 y.o. fighter for universal healthcare

Written by: Eugenie A on Feb 6, 2010 4:58 PM EST

Yes, I was born in 1907 and have a life-long commitment to children and healthcare. I live in my own apartment in Independent Living in a Continuing Care Community outside of Philadelphia. I have asked my friend, Karen, who has Internet access to help me with blogging. She shares most of my social and political viewpoints but all the thoughts and opinions that I share here are my own. People tell me that we can never achieve universal healthcare for all with a one-payer system -that we need to take baby steps and that progress is slow. I say why not? Our healthcare system is like Humpty Dumpty and all the King's horses and all the King's men couldn't get it together with the pieces that they had. To get a complete egg, they would have had to start from scratch. So I think we should start from scratch and offer Americans what every other industrialized nation provides for their citizens. The question that I ask, "Is it possible to see this in my lifetime?" or should I just give up on a cause I have been fighting for and writing about for years. Genie
