From American Friends Service Committee

This weekend marks seven years since the invasion of Iraq in 2003.

It is a moment of tremendous sorrow as we acknowledge the absolute terror that war has brought the people of Iraq.

AFSC is urging folks to take action between now and April 9. That date represents the capture of Baghdad and what many see as the beginning of the U.S. occupation.

Grassroots Oversight on Iraq: March 20 – April 9, 2010.

Suggested Activities:

  • Visit your local House Representative.
  • The House will be on recess March 29-April 9, they need to see your face, and hear your concerns about Iraq.

Thank you for helping us end the Iraq war,
Peter Lems and Mary Zerkel - For AFSC's Wage Peace Campaign team

PS. If you missed our last phone briefing,

you can hear Raed Jarrar’s analysis of the Iraqi elections online.

Oppose Graham's Gitmo Sell-Out!

it’s time for the Senate to stand up and tell Sen. Graham and President Obama “No deal!” Any plan that continues the unconstitutional policies associated with the prison at Guantanamo Bay isn’t a deal worth brokering. Our criminal courts work and should be supported. Gitmo detainees should be either formally charged or released.

Jefferson Is History In Texas

If America's lucky, what happens in Texas will stay in Texas -- at least when it comes to education standards. It would even better if the right wing's destructive manipulation of the state's schools wasn't happening at all.

Silent Spring Has Sprung

by: Randall Amster, J.D., PhD, t r u t h o u t | Op-Ed

Seasons change, yet some things remain the same. Nearly half a century ago, Rachel Carson debuted the first serial installment of what would eventually become one of the landmark works of the 20th century, "Silent Spring." In that book, Carson famously argued that the pesticide DDT was responsible for negative impacts on the environment, animals and humans alike, despite disinformation spread by industry and government officials about its purported safety and utility in agribusiness
