Andrew Brockway for New York State Assembly

Background:

Andy is a former aide to Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, and has been active in community politics for approximately 10 years.

Goals:

I am running for the NYS Assembly because I believe that despite what the incumbent is saying to the contrary, we can provide affordable education without levying additional taxes onto the public. Also, for years the NYS budget has been both late, and has ran severe deficits. I think it is time for a change.....a change so that future generations don't have to pay for our mistakes. I'm also running to ensure that the former Plattsburgh Air Force Base, now PARC continues to court businesses willing to relocate to come to Plattsburgh. The North Country has a long history of losing jobs, and this is the primary reason why younger generations have left, leaving a stagnant economy. I fully pledge to do everything in my power, if elected, to reverse this longstanding trend.

Issues:

1.) Increased educational spending.

2.) Reducing local property taxes and shifting the burden of Medicare off the backs of municipal taxpayers.

3.) Securing jobs to combat youth migration out of the North Country.

Grassroots Support:

It will play a big role in the campaign. We have already been to every town in the district looking for volunteers and have had a great response.

DFA Values:

I am socially progressive in that I don't believe it falls under the auspices of government to regulate personal lives of our citizens. Education has been left without adequate funding for years and I believe in order to retain our status as a global player, we need to start increasing funding allocated to elementary and secondary education.

In terms of fiscal responsibility, I believe it is the responsibility of the government to eliminate long-standing debt and the current trend of securing loans from foreign nations.
