Alex Sink for Florida Chief Financial Officer

Background:

I have more than twenty-five years of financial leadership experience. This includes service as President of Florida's largest bank, where I managed 9,000 employees, 800 branches, and $41 billion in customer assets.

I have also been an active civic leader, including service on Governor Lawton Chiles' Commission on Government Accountability to the People and as Vice Chair of Florida TaxWatch, where I fought for fiscal responsibility in state government.

Finally, I have worked on behalf of children as chair of Governor Chiles' Commission on Education, Chair of Take Stock in Children, as a member of the Hillsborough Education Foundation Board of Directors, and with the Redlands Christian Migrant Association.

Goals:

Florida needs to be someone with strong financial experience to manage the business of our state.

With a twenty-five year financial career, including service as President of Florida's largest bank, I am uniquely qualified to serve as Florida's next Chief Financial Officer.

In my role as Chief Financial Officer, I am going to ensure that taxpayer money is spent wisely and well. I'm also going to fight for consumers by cracking down on insurance fraud and being a strong insurance consumer advocate.

Issues:

As Chief Financial Officer, I will use my twenty-five years of financial experience to protect taxpayers and defend consumers.

(1) For the last eight years, Florida was privatized millions of dollars in state government services. I'm going to take a fine-tooth comb to those contracts to make sure that taxpayers aren't being taken for a ride.

(2) Insurance fraud raises rates and often victimizes some of the most vulnerable citizens of our state. I'm going to crack down on insurance fraud, especially where it strikes Florida seniors.

(3) I'm going to appoint a strong insurance consumer advocate whose name becomes a household word -- someone who aggressively represents the interests of the insurance buying public.

Grassroots Support:

Grassroots organizing will play a very important role in this race. Chief Financial Officer is the second most powerful position in state government, but has never before appeared on the ballot. As a result, many Floridians know little or nothing about the job.

I'm counting on grassroots supporters -- and a unique grassroots strategy -- to spread the word about this important post and my qualifications for the job.
