Ted Strickland for Governor of Ohio

Background:

Ted Strickland is a former Methodist minister, administrator at a Methodist children's home, college professor and is a trained psychologist as well as the current U.S. Representative for Ohio's Sixth Congressional District.

Ted was the eighth of nine children, the second to go to high school and the first in his family to go to college. He was born in Lucasville, OH to hard upbringings - when he was five years old, his house burned down and his family lived in a chicken shack until his father could convert their farm into a home.

Ted's upbringing has taught him what it's like to struggle and what so many Ohio families go through each day just to put food on the table and keep their families together. It is that upbringing, combined with his varied life experiences, that give him the empathy and priorites that have made him such a good public servant and will make him a great Governor of Ohio.

Goals:

Ted's goals are to keep and grow the jobs that Ohio has by investing in Ohio's strengths and to attract the jobs of the future by making sure that Ohio has the best educated workforce possible.

Ohio is in desperate need of change, and Ted feels that he is the only candidate who both understands that and brings the positive, comprehensive agenda that Ohio needs to turn itself around.

Issues:

Providing good, living-wage jobs for Ohioans, making sure that our school system is equitably funded and that an Ohio education is fair and accessible for all, and providing quality, low-cost healthcare to all Ohioans.

Grassroots Support:

Grassroots organizing will hopefully play a large role in this campaign. Ohio is a large state with 88 counties, and without the support of active, passionate grassroots supporters, this race will be all but impossible to win.

DFA Values:

On a personal level, Ted has returned nearly $50,000 in federal healthcare and pay raises to the U.S. Treasury. He refuses to take federal healthcare until everyone in his district has health insurance.

Ted has also consistently voted against irresponsible, deficit-increasing tax cuts and for balanced budgets.

Ted is pro-choice, supports equal rights regardless of race, gender, age or sexual orientation, and has consistently fought for progressive social principles such as separation of church and state and economic equality.
