Ron Monnig for Presiding Commissioner of Saline County

Background:

Ron is a life long Democrat having worked in campaigns for over 30 years. He served as President of Young Democrats of Columbia College; interned for Rep. Jerry Litton in Washington D.C. and been involved in community service in elected, appointed and volunteer positions since high school. He is currently Vice-President of Missouri Municipal League and serving his 5th term as a City Council Member for the City of Slater. During his term on the City Council there have been no tax increases, no increase in utility rates and services have been continually upgraded.

Goals:

Increase economic opportunities throughout the county. To make sure that every citizen is fairly and equally represented, that sound fiscal management practices are followed and the citizens views, beliefs and goals are fairly represented by their elected county officials.

Issues:

To develop the junction of I-70 & U.S. Hwy 65 to help the economy of the county and region. To make Saline County a leader in renewable, alternate energy sources which will compliment the existing Ethonal Plant located here. Prepare and begin the process of making sure our emergency planning services are up to date and will address the safety and well being of our citizens.

Grassroots Support:

We are making a committment to try and contact each of the 25000 residents of Saline County. Through a strong grassroot effort it is our goal to talk with as many citizens as possible and explain to them our vision and goals for the future of Saline County. This type of organizing will be essential in securing victory.

DFA Values:

I have helped with the re-development of downtown Slater as seen through our economic development programs. We have seen our community grow with a committment of over $3 million dollars in our downtown area while increasing the financial outlook of our community. The city has sponsered the development of a 'Youth Center' (the only recreational opportunity in our community)that serves all our young people. We have worked with other communities regionally and state wide to offer some of the most innovative programs available to our community of 2100 citizens.
