| Name: | Allan Burns for U.S. Congress - 7th District Georgia |
| Office: | U.S. Congress - 7th District Georgia |
| Website: | allanburns.com |
Background:
First time running for elective office. Small business owner and lifelong Georgian. Partner in commercial construction company. Degree in urban government from GA State University and worked 7 years for Dekalb County, Georgia in transportation planning & economic development. Married 19 years with 6 children. Wife, Beverly, counsels mental health patients in Gwinnett County, GA.
Goals:
To help return control of Congress to the people and to change our government's policies and change our nation's direction. My goals are to 1) open the political process to average Americans, 2) end the influence of lobbyist and money on elected officials, 3) make energy independence a national priority, 4) make health care affordable for all Americans, 5) address the threat of global warming, and 6) rebuild international alliances.
Issues:
1) Restoring ethics, integrity, accountability and fiscal responsibility to Congress
2) Energy Independence by 2025
3) Affordable Health Care for all Americans by 2008
Grassroots Support:
Critical, since my campaign is being financed primarily by small donations ($50 to $100) and without a lot of money to spend on media advertising, I am relying on individuals and groups to get my message out.
DFA Values:
I support universal health insurance coverage and public education. I believe we need to do more to insure equal opportunity is a reality for all and not just a slogan. I believe in individual freedom, including a woman's right to choose on the issue of abortion and on affording same-sex couples legal rights equivalent to heterosexual couples. I believe we must return to a balanced budget, by spending cuts in certain programs and a repeal of the Bush tax cuts.
