Campaigns » Marcia Moody for State Legislature
U.S. Senate in State Legislature
Primary Election Date: 06/06/2006
General Election Date: 06/06/2006
Who Am I?
In 2004 I was inspired by Howard Dean to run at the last minute as a write-in candidate for the New Hampshire House of Representatives and won. This coming year's race will give me an advantage of running as an incumbent with a voting record that I can use as a testimony to my beliefs. I will emphasize how important it is to change the make-up of the House to get a democratic balance, if not a majority of Democrats in order to pass a progressive agenda. All too often this year good legislation was thwarted because of the two thirds majority of Republicans in both the House and the Senate. My chances of success depends on how effectively I can get my message out to my constituents and who will be running against me
Why Am I Running?
Reasons for Running:.
The reason I am running again is that I feel that I have only just begun to learn the process on enacting important legislation. It takes at least one full term to become familiar with the way the committees work, how to prepare your testimony and arguments before the House. My goals in office are to pass good legislation, help defeat bad bills that will have harmful consequences to the citizens of New Hampshire, and to craft bills to improve and make accessible affordable health insurance for everyone. I also want to protect the environment, especially the water, air and the wetlands. I want to prevent exploitation of the land and turning our resources into nothing but commodities for profit. Being on the Resources Recreation and Development Committee gives me this opportunity.
Hold Me Accountable!
My Platform:
My platform is to protect and preserve all that makes New Hampshire and its people great. My three issues are: 1. Making health insurance available and affordable for everyone. 2. Protecting the environment and crafting legislation to that end. 3. Doing everything I can to help pass an increase to the minimum wage.
My DFA values:
My Campaign is People-Powered!
Grassroots was responsible for my getting into politics in the first place. It was because of the inspiration of Howard Dean, his campaign for President and his urging everyone to take an active role and run for office ourselves that made me run as a write-in candidate for the NH House in 2004 and get elected. I truly believe that the future of the Party lies in the hands of grassroots candidates. I am currently supporting Carol Shea Porter, an excellent grassroots candidate for the 1st Congressional District in NH. I supported our Governor, John Lynch in 2004 a grassroots candidate and a "Dean Dozen" selection. Grassroots is the most viable and active of the movements in the country. I received all my support in my first campaign from grassroots people. They are vital to my campaign for re-election. I have been very fortunate in this campaign cycle to have been chosen as one of the first 10 candidates to receive the endorsement of DFNH (Democracy for New Hampshire). I really appreciate their support as they are one of the most active and one of the most politically aware groups in the state.
Election for this campaign has passed.
