Nicholas Ruiz III for Congress

Who am I?

Dr. Ruiz (Ph.D in Humanities, Florida State University, 2006; MLA in
Liberal Arts, University of North Carolina, 2003; BS in Molecular and
Microbiology, University of Central Florida, 1996) was born in New York
City in 1970 and lives in New Smyrna Beach, FL, USA. He is the author of
America in Absentia (2008), Integral Reality (with Robert Hassan,
forthcoming, 2011) and The Metaphysics of Capital, (2006). He is also
the editor of Kritikos.

Why am I running?

Progressives have to look forward. There is a huge independently
progressive and Democratic constituency that is not being
adequately represented by the Democratic Party as it stands
today. Constituents on the Left are hungry for the real thing.

Real progressive politics. Real democracy. Real progress.

In 2012, I aim to offer a progressive, democratic agenda for all
citizens - regardless of their party affiliation. But I will offer my
candidacy, on the ballot, as a Democrat. There is a historically rich
tradition and legacy in Democratic politics, if we have the courage
to reclaim it.

Let's do it. Or as someone famous once said, not so long ago: "It'll
be - just like starting over."

My Goals

Social Security - We should lower the age of
Social Security retirement eligibility to 55, and
increase the benefit by 20%. This policy will
encourage people to retire sooner, allowing them
to enjoy their later years in better health, while
freeing them to contribute to society in other ways.

Unemployment - By lowering the retirement
eligibility age and increasing the benefit, we
encourage people to retire earlier, while
simultaneously realizing new job openings created
by their retirement that can then be filled by the
unemployed. Unemployment benefits should be
continued until the unemployment rate returns to
historically reasonable levels. We must preserve
the U.S. Social Safety Net.

Universal Healthcare System - Every major
industrialized nation in the world has a universal
healthcare system - when will America? I will
support and/or sponsor legislation for a universal
healthcare system - let's end the nonsense of the
Medicare D 'donut hole', the 'uninsured' or
'non-covered' status, and prejudice against
alternative medicine, etc.... forever. Like the fire
and police departments which offer universal
public access to their services - universal health
care should also be available as a standard public
service.

About the Endorsement Process

All campaigns seeking a DFA endorsement are first required to complete the endorsement application in order to be considered. Members of the DFA Political team will review applications after submission and make endorsement decisions on a rolling basis throughout the applicable election cycle.

The driving force behind all DFA endorsements is our membership. We gauge DFA member support in a number of different ways. For starters, supporters can publicly show their support on any candidate’s application page. We also utilize endorsement decisions of local DFA groups as a measure of local community support. Finally, if you know a candidate deserving of a DFA endorsement who hasn’t yet applied, we want to hear about them! Please visit the Endorsement FAQ page for answers to frequently asked questions about our endorsement process.

If you still have any questions, or want to let us know about a candidate in your neighborhood, please call us at (802) 651-3200 or email us at [email protected] .
