Background:

I am a native of NY, grew up on Long Island, and went to school in NY, England and Canada. I've been a business woman for over 25 years with a background in Computer Systems design and sales, executive search in the Finance and Real Estate sectors and consulting for sales and project development in solar and wind power.

Goals:

I am running because I believe we need to get out of Iraq, that we need to call for a ceasefire in the wars between Israel, Palestine, and Lebanon, that we need to join the International Criminal Court and support the United Nations, and that Bush and Cheney need to be held accountable for their lies (investigated and impeached). The incumbent doesn't share those opinions. I further believe that our country needs an expanded "Medicare for All" healthcare system, because healthcare should be a right and not a privilege and the cost of healthcare is crippling our businesses. I believe that we need election reform including national standardized ballots (paper) that will guarantee that every vote will be recorded, safeguarded, properly counted and that proper audit trails be available for full recounts to eliminate the possibility of any more stolen elections, and for full public financing to eliminate corporate influence. I further believe that we need an energy polcy that will reflect the public sentiment that we must stop the trend of Global Warming, using wind,solar, geothermal, and bio fuel solutions to greatly reduce greenhouse gases and eliminate our dependence on oil from hostile regions of the world (that statement might mean that our sources are reduced to Canada, Great Britain, and Norway at the rate we're going).
I will immediately join the Congressional Progressive Caucus and the Out Of Iraq Caucus.
My goal is to make a government that serves the needs of people instead of one that acts more like a short term Wall Street investor. Government has a responsibility to protect our food, our air, our water, and the earth from the greed of corporations who currently pollute with impunity. We are being poisoned, and our future well-being compromised by the unhealthful practices of the large industrial farms.
Corporate Lobbyists must be kept away from the legislative process and be prevented from writing bills. My opponent, Mr Engel just voted to give away internet neutrality to his largest donors, which is incredible that he would vote against freedom and democracy for small change, when he knows that I have negligible funding!

DFA Values:

I support the Common Sense Budget Act of 2006, introduced by Lynne Woolsey. This cuts approximately $60,000,000,000 from the Pentagon Budget for what are WW2 obsolete weapons systems and reallocates the funds for much needed domestic programs, including health care, education, housing, clean energy, and Homeland Security.
Further, I will support HR 676, the Expanded Medicare For All" bill which will save our businesses approximately 4% of their payroll costs, while giving coverage from cradle to grave for all employees. Right now healthcare costs are mounting at such a rate that last year GM spent more on healthcare than it did on steel for its cars.
I am a Progressive Democrat in areas of family, separation of church and state, civil rights, prison reform, public education, fair trade, and believe that taxes must be scaled in such a manor to provide a humane dignified life for the poorest while maintaining a high quality of life and stability for the most well off. Tax breaks for the wealthiest at the expense of our fiscal well being, especially while we are engaged in two wars is obscene.
