Hensley for House

Who am I?

Brian David Hensley is currently a substitute teacher for multiple school districts in Monroe and Wayne counties. First and foremost Brian wants to create a positive educational environment for students. Brian is an Alumni of Monroe County Community College, where he was a member of the International Studies Club. He also completed The Fund For American Studies Engalitcheff Institute on Comparative Political and Economic Systems (public policy track), held at Georgetown University in Washington D.C. Brian also double majored in political science and social studies at Eastern Michigan University. As a substitute teacher and as a student, Brian has experienced and overcome first hand the challenges facing today's students and teachers.

Brian also is experienced in economic issues. Before attending Monroe County Community College and working his way up to the university level, Brian was a laborer at Rockwood's Penstone Inc. an automotive supplier for Flat Rock's Auto Alliance International plant, and for various General Motors plants. Brian was an alternate union representative and It was there that Brian learned the value of hard work, integrity and the importance of working together to get the job done. Unfortunately due to the recession of 2008, Brian was laid off due to his shift being eliminated. This experience was and is unfortunately common. It was then that Brian decided to fight for the working class of Michigan.

Why am I running?

I'm running for this particular office because I have been personally negatively affected by State policies. I feel that my experiences and education give me a unique opportunity to bring positive change to my home district, and to my State. I have always been driven to public service, it's in my nature to want to help people. They say if you want to serve your community to do what you know, what I know is good policy.

My Goals

Bring jobs back to Michigan by stopping regressive tax policies
Restore funding levels for k-12 and Post secondary education to pre-Snyder levels.

My DFA Values

This legacy campaign is missing this information

My Campaign is People Powered!

1.)All of my volunteers are doing this in their spare time, even though canvassing work can be challenging, people are excited to listen to what I have to say and are volunteering their time to help me bring my unique experiences with me to Lansing.
2.)All of my donations from the community has come from small donations under $5, I'm more interested in recieving a voters opinions, thoughts and idea's rather than their money. Though I'm not allergic to funding, I feel that in a democracy it's the candidate with the most votes who wins elections, not the most money.

About the Endorsement Process

All campaigns seeking a DFA endorsement are first required to complete the endorsement application in order to be considered. Members of the DFA Political team will review applications after submission and make endorsement decisions on a rolling basis throughout the applicable election cycle.

The driving force behind all DFA endorsements is our membership. We gauge DFA member support in a number of different ways. For starters, supporters can publicly show their support on any candidate’s application page. We also utilize endorsement decisions of local DFA groups as a measure of local community support. Finally, if you know a candidate deserving of a DFA endorsement who hasn’t yet applied, we want to hear about them! Please visit the Endorsement FAQ page for answers to frequently asked questions about our endorsement process.

If you still have any questions, or want to let us know about a candidate in your neighborhood, please call us at (802) 651-3200 or email us at [email protected] .
