Who am I?

I represent the 28th Congressional District of New York State, work tirelessly on behalf of the district and my constituents know me as a fighter for increased economic development across Western New York. Over the years, I have earned a reputation for my dedication to constituent service while simultaneously being a strong progressive voice on a host of national issues, from the war in Afghanistan and global trade to government reform and genetics. I'm a member of the House Democratic Leadership and in 2007, became the first woman to serve as Chairwoman of the influential House Committee on Rules, a position that allows me to influence nearly every single piece of legislation that comes to the House floor for a vote. I also serve on the prestigious Democratic Steering & Policy Committee, and am Chair of two congressional caucuses: the Congressional Arts Caucus and the Bipartisan Congressional Pro-Choice Caucus, of which I am a founding member. As the only microbiologist in Congress - with a master's degree in public health - I have long played a role in the major health and science issues of our time.

Why am I running?

I am running to continue my record of working to grow the middle class and fighting efforts by the Republicans in the House to reward millionaires with tax breaks while reducing important programs like Social Security and Medicare.

My Goals

I am deeply committed to a number of legislative priorities including but not limited to passing legislation to hold the political intelligence industry accountable, ensure our trade laws benefit American workers, and reduce antibiotic resistance, which is a major public health concern caused by corporate farming practices.

In the last weeks, we have added more than 1,000 volunteers to our team and we will continue to depend on them rather than shadowy outside interests my opponent uses to spread our message.

About the Endorsement Process

All campaigns seeking a DFA endorsement are first required to complete the endorsement application in order to be considered. Members of the DFA Political team will review applications after submission and make endorsement decisions on a rolling basis throughout the applicable election cycle.

The driving force behind all DFA endorsements is our membership. We gauge DFA member support in a number of different ways. For starters, supporters can publicly show their support on any candidate’s application page. We also utilize endorsement decisions of local DFA groups as a measure of local community support. Finally, if you know a candidate deserving of a DFA endorsement who hasn’t yet applied, we want to hear about them! Please visit the Endorsement FAQ page for answers to frequently asked questions about our endorsement process.

If you still have any questions, or want to let us know about a candidate in your neighborhood, please call us at (802) 651-3200 or email us at [email protected] .
