Stephen Blythe for Congress

Background:

I am a life-long democrat. I am a family physician and member of Physicians for a National Health Plan. A Life Member of the Sierra Club, I am a lifelong environmentalist.

Goals:

The last seven years has been a disaster - for the environment, for the constitution, for human rights, and for poor and working-class Americans. We need to turn around the damage done by the Bush adminstration and those members of congress such as Dave Weldon who rubber-stamped everything Bush wanted.

Issues:

The environment - reducing global warming, emphasizing alternative energy, and reducing fossil fuel consumption.
Access to health care for the 47 million Americans who live in daily terror - terror at the thought of a major illness or injury that would bankrupt them.
Restoring our respect for the civil and human rights of Americans and people around the world. No torture, no kidnapping, no arrest without charges, no warrantless spying!

Grassroots Support:

We have very little money and will rely heavily on phone calls, canvassing, the internet, blogging, e-mails, etc.

DFA Values:

I am an active member of the Space Coast Progressive Alliance. I have traveled to Latin America many times - some times to provide health care and on one human rights delegation to Guatemala with Witness for Peace. I spent two months during the Guatemalan civil war providing medical care to refugees in Chiapas, Mexico. I recently gave a number of talks after a trip to Venezuela with Global Exchange. I often give talks on the need for a national health plan, and am a member of Physicians for a National Health Plan.
