Who am I?

My wife Jennifer and I have three children under the age of six. We want what every family wants for their children - a healthy, safe environment, excellent schools and improving economic conditions.

Why am I running?

I am running for State Senate because the issues facing our community have a direct impact on my children. Over the past several years, I observed multiple failed school referendums in many Northern Lake County communities. Realizing the direct effect these issues will have on my children, I decided to apply my business background in finance and complex budgeting to evaluate the financial stability of my own school district.

I turned my concern into action by seeking a seat on the Board of Education for Woodland District 50. After being successfully elected with the highest number of votes of 10 candidates, I now serve on the board of education of the largest school district in Lake County and the 5th largest school district in the State of Illinois.

I fully realize our problems and solutions encompass much more than schools. My concern is that our current elected officials either lack the understanding, will or leadership ability to take on these challenging problems.

My Goals

One of the greatest responsibilities of our government is the judicious and reasoned use of our tax dollars. As citizens, we justifiably expect our tax dollars to be put to effective use. We also are owed a balanced budget.

The population within the 31st District has greatly expanded over the past 10 years with many communities seeing increases of over 100%. Our legislators have not done enough to improve the roads on which we depend to handle this traffic flow. The capacity simply is not there. The heavy traffic delays bear witness to the fact there has not been sufficient planning and action regarding our roads. The economic vitality of this area and our comfort requires a system of roads suited to our needs.

The education of our kids is one of the most important responsibilities of government. Our kids are owed a solid, quality education and we must ensure that the children of the 31st District are given every opportunity to succeed. It is the duty of our elected leaders to work to maintain high standards of excellence of our schools and secure adequate funding. The current leadership has failed in this regard.

About the Endorsement Process

All campaigns seeking a DFA endorsement are first required to complete the endorsement application in order to be considered. Members of the DFA Political team will review applications after submission and make endorsement decisions on a rolling basis throughout the applicable election cycle.

The driving force behind all DFA endorsements is our membership. We gauge DFA member support in a number of different ways. For starters, supporters can publicly show their support on any candidate’s application page. We also utilize endorsement decisions of local DFA groups as a measure of local community support. Finally, if you know a candidate deserving of a DFA endorsement who hasn’t yet applied, we want to hear about them! Please visit the Endorsement FAQ page for answers to frequently asked questions about our endorsement process.

If you still have any questions, or want to let us know about a candidate in your neighborhood, please call us at (802) 651-3200 or email us at [email protected] .
