General Election Date: 11/04/2008
Who Am I?
I was born and raised in Cumberland. I graduated from Fort Hill High School, Allegany College of Maryland, and Frostburg State University, where I earned a Bachelor's Degree with a double major in Justice Studies and Political Science. I also earned a Master's of Arts in Teaching Degree from Frostburg.
I work at Rocky Gap State Park, managing a staff of 24, four facilities, and an operating budget of over half a million dollars.
I've been named a "Community Quarterback" by Parade Magazine, the NFL, and Baltimore Ravens, for outstanding volunteer service to the community. I've also be recognized by Governor O'Malley, Governor Ehrlich, and Governor Glendening for community service. Recently I was recognized as a "Daily Point of Light" by President Bush for civic and community service.
Throughout my life, I have been dedicated to improving Western Maryland. I have served with numerous civic organizations and volunteered countless hours in the community. I am a proven supporter of this community with a record of civic leadership.
Why Am I Running?
I believe that my enthusiasm can give new breath to Cumberland government. I believe that my experiences, education, and love of community make me an ideal candidate for this office. I pledge to continue the work that I have performed on a volunteer basis, interacting with and assisting community groups in any way that I can. I have a strong record of community dedication and volunteerism and there is no question that I am committed to making a difference.
For me, this is an opportunity to do more and give back. It's an opportunity to make an impact and make a difference. I want to be the next City Councilman because I care about Cumberland and what is just around the corner in our City's future. I bring new energy and enthusiasm to the table and I represent the next generation of Cumberland residents.
Hold Me Accountable!
WORK TOGETHER - partner with residents and organizations to revitalize the community one neighborhood at a time
DEVELOP WISELY - preserve the character of Cumberland through Smart Growth and redevelopment of existing infrastructure
CREATE SOLUTIONS - make it easier to do business in the city and make government more responsive
MOVE FORWARD - protect the heritage, traditions, and pride of Cumberland while planning for and encouraging a real move into the 21st Century
My DFA values:
I believe in individual freedoms. I also believe in individual responsibility. Fiscally, I believe that programs must have a funding mechanism - unfunded mandates are destined to become failures.
My Campaign is People-Powered!
My entire campaign will be a grassroots effort. I have already launched a "people campaign," visiting neighborhood groups, community meetings, and public events. I will also walk door to door to every voter's home in Cumberland to introduce myself and provide literature about my vision for Cumberland and my plan for a positive future.
Election for this campaign has passed.
