Goals:
I am inspired to run for the House of Representatives because incumbant Republican Congressman Paul Ryan of Wisconsin's 1st Congressional District consistently represents the privileged few at the expense of working families in the District.
I decided to run for Congress because I fel a duty to my country to end the lies and half truths that President George W. Bush and Republican Congressman Paul Ryan stubbornly adhere to.
My goals in office will be to address three major issues:
1. Ending the War in Iraq
2. Working for Real Solutions to the Health Care Crisis in America
3. Supporting Working Families
We need a Representative who will offer real leadership on President George W. Bush's Iraq War instead of Congressman Paul Ryan's rubber-stamping the failures of President George W. Bush. For the people in Wisconsin's 1st Congressional District, the choice is between Bush and Ryan's support for indefinite occupation and my demand for a real plan that will bring our troops home and strengthen our national security.
While our soldiers have accomplished everything that has been asked of them, there is still no plan from Bush and Ryan to start bringing home most if not all of our troops home.
And once our troops are home they deserve the best America has to offer for their physical, emotional and spiritual needs. From the hospitals through out patient care, they deserve accessible high quality care for all of their needs after returning from war not the present system that often gives second rate care for America's finest.
America is facing a growing health care crisis. Forty five million Americans have no medical coverage and many others are under insured. It's hurting our businesses. Health insurance adds $1500 to the cost of each vehicle General Motors produces, while their Japanese counterparts pay only $200. We spend two times more per capita on health care than any other nation. That is twice what as much as Japan and Great Britain and 90% more than Canada, France and Germany. Yet according to the World Health Organization, we rank 37th in the quality of our medical care. America can and must do better.
Americans are ready for an honest discussion about health care. Southeastern Wisconsin pays the most in the nation for health care. We need to approach this issue with a pragmatic, open minded, can-do attitude. Both the health of our citizens and the health of our economy are at stake.
I am a strong supporter of Labor Unions and working families. They have played an essential role in guarenteeing that working people participate in the American Dream. Labor Unions fought for and earned basic rights for American workers. Plus they helped establish a minimum wage and benefits that support a decent standard of living for all working Americans. However, these are hard times for unions and wage earners in general.
Congressman Paul Ryan refused to support a bill that would provide protections for workers to form unions - Employee Free Choice Act HR 1696. Americans have died for the right to form Labor Unions. Congressman Ryan has no right to weaken what was so valiantly fought for.
Issues:
1. Ending the War in Iraq. I wrote an editorial against the war BEFORE it started.
2. Working for Real Solutions to the Health Care Crisis in America. Southeastern Wisconsin has the HIGHEST healthcare costs in the nation.
3. Supporting Working Families. I walked the UAW picket lines at the GM and Chrysler plants in my District.
Grassroots Support:
Ousting a 5 term incumbant is will absolutely require an extremely organized and strong grass roots effort! Since last April I have been reaching out to voters, Labor Unions and activisits of many stripes. The inclusion of those who may not have strong voting habits e.g. Hispanics and Blacks is also a key element in my campaign.
As you can see on my website, I include EVERYONE in my campaign. Democrats are at our best when we stress that we are ALL in this together.
DFA Values:
When I get to Washington I am determined to help prepare for the immense challenges ahead. As a social progressive I am:
1. Pro-Choice
2. Pro-Education
3. Pro-Environment.
I am also a hard nosed business woman as per my biography. I will:
1. Fight to Balance the Budget
2. Fight to Reduce the National Debt.
3. Fight for affordable healthcare as both a social progressive and as a cost saving measure.
