Background:

Twenty-Four Mayor of Hialeah, FL. Elected nine times as Mayor of Florida's fifth largest city. Past President of Florida League of Cities.
First Cuban American Mayor in United States.

Goals:

I am running because our country is headed in the wrong direction and needs people who are determined and committed to making real change.

Issues:

I will work tirelessly to end the War in Iraq, provide Americans universal and affordable health care and provide affordable housing.

Grassroots Support:

I was elected nine times as Mayor of Florida's fifth largest city. I never had a paid employee on any campaign, they were all conducted by large groups of volunteers and supported by major grass root organizations. While my Congressional campaign will have professional staff, the campaign is already dependent on grass root supporters. In the two announcement ceremonies I held earlier this year over 400 supporters attended. This has already lead to volunteer neighborhood walks, volunteer staffed campaign offices and volunteer designed and created website.

DFA Values:

I believe that all Americans should have access to affordable health care, including preventative care for children. This will ultimately save the taxpayers money in the long run. I am appalled that we are selling billions of treasurey bonds to foreign countries to finance a war that was clearly a mistake. We are weakening the Dollar and ruining the economy in pursuit of this ill conceived war. The tax structure is completely out of whack: Oil companies get huge tax breaks, fund managers pay no taxes and those in the middle class bear the greatest burden. This unfair and must end.
