Challenging Inhofe
Linked to campaigns: Andrew Rice for U.S. Senator
(Disclaimer: This post is from an Andrew Rice campaign email. I do not work for Rice's campaign, but I am an intern at Democracy for America.)
Tuesday’s primary election in Oklahoma made it official.
The voters have spoken and I am honored to accept the Democratic nomination to challenge Jim Inhofe and become Oklahoma’s next U. S. Senator.
I believe that Inhofe must be held accountable for his extreme, 22-year voting record in Congress but I need your help. I am challenging Inhofe to a series of debates across Oklahoma so voters can make an informed choice this November.
Our internal polling shows that when voters are given the chance to compare us head-to-head, we win.
Today, I sent Inhofe a personal letter asking him to engage me in at least six debates this fall. You can help convince him by signing on to my challenge today.

Our campaign has all the momentum. Following our resounding victory on Tuesday when more Democrats voted than Republicans, I look forward to focusing on the issues that are important to most Oklahomans as we move into the fall campaign.
Whether it’s about lowering fuel prices while creating clean energy jobs in Oklahoma or dramatically expanding access to health care for Oklahoma’s working families, Jim Inhofe and I differ on many critical issues. Voters should have the opportunity to compare my new solutions to the status quo policies advocated by the incumbent Jim Inhofe.
You can help persuade Inhofe to debate me by signing my online petition. Ask him to step out from behind his slick TV ads and his carefully scripted personal appearances and debate me in front of Oklahoma voters.

After all, this election is not about me or Jim Inhofe. It’s about you, your family, your community and our nation’s future. Let Jim Inhofe hear your voice. Let him see the names of thousands of voters who want to make an informed choice this November.
Jim Inhofe says he supports our troops but he has voted 17 times against measures to improve their benefits at home or upgrade their armor on the battlefield. He says he supports our seniors but he has voted against Medicare funding 18 times, most recently to protect huge profits for insurance companies. He says he supports alternative energy but regularly votes against shifting tax incentives away from big oil to clean energy technologies.

Political debates are an American tradition. Let’s force Jim Inhofe out of his comfort zone and into the Democratic process. Ask him to debate me at least six times this fall.
I am grateful for your help and hope I can count on you to attend at least one of the debates that your petition helped create.
Sincerely,
Andrew Rice
State Senator
P.S. - Through a series of debates with Jim Inhofe, I can make him accountable for his 22-year voting record in Congress and discuss my plans for breaking the special interests’ grip on Washington.
