General Election Date: 11/04/2008

Who Am I?

Among the many qualifications that make Ed Zipprich an ideal Borough Council candidate is his love of Red Bank and his desire to see the town continue to thrive. Ed has worked on planning and preservation issues for much of his life. In an effort to improve local government, he worked tirelessly on recent political campaigns to help elect progressive people to government. He truly enjoys grassroots projects and being part of the community.
As a member of Red Bank Historic Preservation Commission, Ed has been a strong advocate for preservation. In 2007 he successfully nominated the T. Thomas Fortune House to Preservation NJ’s 10 Most Endangered Historic Sites. He is currently bringing a proposal for a residential historic district in Red Bank to the Borough Council as the town prepares to celebrates its centennial this year. Ed was appointed to the Vision/Master Plan review committee by the mayor to review the Master Plan that will take the borough into the future. Ed Zipprich is a member of the Red Bank Historic Preservation Commision, the Planning Board, he serves as Treasurer of the Red Bank Education Foundation and is County Chair of Monmouth DFA/PDA. Zip also sits on the executive board of NJ for Democracy. He was also elected as Vice President of Development for NJ Stonewall Democrats.

Why Am I Running?

I am running to bring the voice of the people back to government. I'd like to help develop better methods to stabilize spending and stick to our budget. The town needs to continue to grow with a smart growth plan while preserving our historic properties and fabric.

Hold Me Accountable!

-Public Safety
-Historic Preservation
-Fiscal Responsibility
-Education & Social Responsibility
-Controlling development through smart growth
-Planning with the long range result of reducing population density

My DFA values:

Ed is the Chair of Monmouth DFA/PDA. He is a Training Academy & Night School graduate. In 2008 he was elected to the Executive Board of NJ for Democracy. He is a member of Garden State Equality and this year was elected Vice President of Development for the NJ Stonewall Democrats. Zipprich is a member of the local grassroots group, The Bus for Change. During the 2007, Ed not only ran for a Council seat in Red Bank Bank, but managed the campaign which aided his 2 running mates in winning election. Zipprich maintains that he was able to organize the campaign based on what he learned from DFA's Training Academy & Night School classes. In 2006, he worked with the grassroots to help elect Barbara McMorrow to the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders. Freeholder McMorrow was the first female Democrat elected to the board in 25 years. His campaign work involved meeting voters at town fairs, evening meetings with constituents and going door to door. He is skilled in finding out what constituents want, and on the Council, he will be able address your needs.

My Campaign is People-Powered!

In 2007, DFA members were the backbone of Ed's camaign. This year they are better organized and even better connected as a team. Ed and his running mate, Juanita Lewis participated in the Training Academy in NJ and forged bonds with a larger circle of DFAers from around the county and state. Ed is currently the host of a candidate discussion group for NJ for Democracy where candidates and campaign managers share ideas on strategy and staying on message.
