Who Am I?

I was born and raised in Oregon, and attended college in Hawaii. I graduated cum laude with a B.A. in Political and Historical Studies, and as such felt right at home teaching high school Government and U.S. History. Desiring to see American Democracy up close, I then went to our nation's Capitol, where I became a senior Congressional aide to Congressman Gary Ackerman (NY). My portfolio included foreign affairs, economic development, tax issues and trade policy. I then moved to San Diego in order to attend the University of San Diego's law and business schools, graduating with both my Law degree and a Masters Degree in Business Administration in three years. Being called again to public service, I became a Criminal Law Clerk at the Department of Justice, United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of California where I was assigned to the major frauds and economic crimes section. Continuing to serve, I next went to work for the City of San Diego as a Criminal Prosecutor. There I reviewed, charged, arraigned and went to trial on hundreds of criminal matters, including; weapons possession, burglary, domestic violence, child abuse, forgery and fraud in public contracting.

Why Am I Running?

The reason that I am running mirrors my goal in office: in short, I want to be proud of my government again. It is incumbent upon those who can make a difference to step up and do so. If we don’t, no one else will. Please join me!

Hold Me Accountable!

The top three issues are the war in Iraq, energy and the environment, and healthcare. To date, we have lost over 4,000 of our brave men and women in combat while General Patreus has told us he sees no light at the end of the tunnel. We need to set a timeline to bring our troops home by the end of 2009. A secure and prosperous future requires a healthy planet with enough energy, water, clean air, and natural resources to provide for all of us. We must decrease our dependency on fossil fuels by investing in the development of alternative fuels. I believe every family should have access to a family doctor of their choice. To accomplish this, I will work for universal healthcare to ensure that this basic need is met for all Americans.

My DFA values:

I am for public financing of campaigns, balancing the budget, and I have pledged not to use earmarks during my tenure. I believe in a woman’s right to choose and have been endorsed by Planned Parenthood Action Fund of San Diego and Riverside Counties, as well as NARAL Pro Choice America. I will work for universal healthcare for all.

My Campaign is People-Powered!

We are running a strong grassroots campaign. We have built a network of precinct captains that are out knocking on doors each ad every day. Dedicated supporters on the ground are instrumental in any campaign and I must have their help to beat “Wrong-Way” Brian Bilbray.
