Joanna Cole for State Representative

Background:

I am Joanna Cole, a retired chemistry professor and biology teacher, who also trained as a social justice minister. I am a mother and grandmother and live with my partner, Sarah Flynn.

Goals:

The New North End of Burlington needs a woman's voice to help balance all the male voices.
I want to help bring about a State of the Art Healthcare Plan for all Vermonters that we can be proud of, leading the nation.

Issues:

1. Healthcare for all including Mental Healthcare.
2. Energy Efficiency.
3. Finding a new way to fund Education (fairer than based on property taxes)

Grassroots Support:

My campaign support, funding, endorsement will be grassroots based.

DFA Values:

I believe in healthcare for all. I'd like to work toward single payer, non- profit, non-employment related healthcare for everyone in VT (eventually US). This would be a less expensive way to pay for healthcare and would include the vulnerable who do not currently have effective healthcare.

We need to have more focus on renewable energy and energy efficiency. Fossil fuels are time limited and will become more & more expensive.
Nuclear energy is not safe enough. We don't know how to recycle our nuclear waste and the mining of radioactive materials is very dangerous for the miners. Cancer rates are much higher in nuclear power plant areas.

We need to provide public preschool for all and increase our funding of higher education which will improve our society and economy.
