Qarni for Delegate

Who am I?

I currently teach 8th grade mathematics at Beville Middle School, located in Prince William County. I have been teaching mathematics in Prince William County since 2008.

I joined the Marine Corps Reserves in 1996, soon after I graduated from high school. I served honorably with the Marines for eight years. In 2003, I was deployed to Iraq for Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

I live in Manassas with my wife, Fatima, and two sons, Zane and Saber. I have lived in Manassas since 2005 and I enjoy coaching sports. In the last several years, I have coached football with the Greater Manassas Football League and Manassas Park Youth Football League. I have also coached soccer with the Northern Virginia Soccer League. Additionally, I have coached Track and Field at Fred Lynn Middle School and Beville Middle School. I grew up in Parkville, Maryland with my parents and two brothers. I graduated from Parkville High School in 1996, and enlisted with the Marine Corps Reserves right after high school. I attended George Washington University in Washington, DC, from 1996-2000, where I obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology.

In 2007, I received a Master's Degree in History from George Mason University in Fairfax, VA. I also hold a Master's Degree in Education Administration from Strayer University.

Why am I running?

I'm running as a Democrat for District 13, Virginia House of Delegates, because Virginians need a progressive-minded representative who will focus on addressing important issues that affect our daily lives. I plan to use a common sense approach to solving our problems and improving the quality of life for all Virginians. By working together, we can help strengthen our families, communities, and economy, making Virginia one of the best places to live and work.

My Goals

If I am elected, the first thing I will focus on is getting more money to public schools so the school divsions can increase teacher salaries, allocated more money to enhance technology in the classrooms, and provide grants for after school tutoring programs for kids who need additional help outside the classroom.

My DFA Values

My campaign kickoff is being held in a family owned restaurant which has been around for over 40 years, and is the cornerstone of our community. My campaign is doing this to support a small business but also bring people together to a place where they feel comfortable. I am bringing together people from diverse backgrounds, many of whom are a victim of poor representation. Women's health issues in our community have been a target by Tea-Party Republicans. Immigrant families in our community have been targeted and constantly harrased by police stops or home searches. Commuters in our community have not been provided the best methods of transporation, and struggle to make it to their kids practices, games and school events.

My Campaign is People Powered!

My volunteer base is proportionally comprised of retirees, working professionals, and college students. I am energizing people who do not normally vote. We have a volunteer base that is very ethnically diverse as well. What we lack in money, we make up in numbers.

About the Endorsement Process

The driving force behind all DFA endorsements is our members. We recognize that all politics is local and that what is considered progressive in Los Angeles may be very different from what's considered progressive in Louisville. For this reason, DFA does not have a litmus test of specific progressive positions for which a candidate must stand. Our endorsement is heavily weighted based on these questions:

• Will the candidate move the progressive movement forward in their community?
• Does the candidate have substantial support from our local members?
• Do the candidate's positions and policies fit into the broader progressive movement?
• Is the campaign people-powered and the candidate working to win?

If you have questions, or want to let us know about a candidate in your neighborhood, please call us at (802) 651-3200 or email us at [email protected] .
