Why am I running?

I am running because I refuse to stand idly by while our leaders in Washington refuse to hear the voice of the people. Because I hear it loud and clear. The people are crying out for a new generation of leadership. I refuse to let welfare be a way of life rather for it to be a second chance for struggling individuals and families. I refuse to allow our country to continue down the path of petty partisanship and bickering that gets nothing done. I refuse to be the generation that gives up and passes our mess on to future generations as generations before us are doing now. I refuse to be the generation that gives up on the American people and the American Dream. I am running because I refuse to allow anyone to tell me it cannot be done.

My Goals

My top three policy goals are to make sure that our veterans and their families get the help they need, work to reform welfare so that it will be a hand up not a hand out, and work to create a strong middle class that will help rebuild our economy. I will work to pass legislation that makes sure that the department of Veterans Affairs has adequate funding to properly help veterans and restore funds lost due to sequestration. I will work to make welfare a place that people can turn to in hard times. I will work on legislation that will help people get the job training for the work they are seeking and then allow a gradual draw down in welfare benefits as their income and capacity to care for their families rise so that they are not dependent on welfare. I will work to see that tax credits for businesses that take jobs overseas are cut, work to stop trade deals that hurt American productivity, and work to increase minimum wage. By giving more opportunity to all more responsibility is expected. I have worked on these three by supporting any legislation that has worked to accomplish any of these and any person who has advocated for these issues.

My DFA Values

My campaign will work for the community by making sure that anyone who wants to volunteer or anyone who wants to voice their opinion is never turned away. This campaign will fight for the voices of the people which have been drowned out by special interests. This campaign will be the sword for those who believe they have no power and the shield for those who believe that they have no protection. This campaign will always make sure that America is safe and that we have a military that has the tools necessary to fight all forms of attack. We will stand by relationships with allies that have produced positive results over our history and work to distance ourselves from those relationships that could have the potential to backfire. We must work to reduce our dependence on foreign oil and natural resources which in turn will work to make us safer. We will work to make sure that no one is turned away from the American Dream that have legally made the effort to become U.S. Citizens. We must respect the rule of law in order to respect liberty.

My Campaign is People Powered!

I plan on running this campaign based on grass-root efforts. I have engaged people through Facebook until I have a website up and running. I have attended county fairs with more to attend in the coming weeks. I will build on the ground work that has been laid thus far with meet and greets in every county in the district, scheduling appearances at various community events, and continued engagement through multimedia.

About the Endorsement Process

The driving force behind all DFA endorsements is our members. We recognize that all politics is local and that what is considered progressive in Los Angeles may be very different from what's considered progressive in Louisville. For this reason, DFA does not have a litmus test of specific progressive positions for which a candidate must stand. Our endorsement is heavily weighted based on these questions:

• Will the candidate move the progressive movement forward in their community?
• Does the candidate have substantial support from our local members?
• Do the candidate's positions and policies fit into the broader progressive movement?
• Is the campaign people-powered and the candidate working to win?

If you have questions, or want to let us know about a candidate in your neighborhood, please call us at (802) 651-3200 or email us at [email protected] .
