Committee to Elect Bruce Hawley
| Name: | Committee to Elect Bruce Hawley |
| Office: | State Representative |
| Website: | electbrucehawley.org/ |
Background:
I just retired in March as Business Manager of Ironworkers Local 340, President of West Michigan Building Trades, and the President of West Michigan Construction Alliance. I have also been on Kent City School Board and Holy Family Parish (Sparta) Finance Council as well as President of The City Little League for 30 years. I served a four-year apprentice Program with the Ironworkers. I have an Associate Degree in Business and a Bachelor's Degree in Labor Relations. I'm 55 years old, happily married to Jean and we have four daughters and four grandchildren.
Goals:
The main reason I'm running for political office is because I believe our country/state is headed in the wrong direction, and I believe I can do a better job of working with both sides of the aisle to bring Business, Labor, Education, and Government together to find solutions to not only our economy, but ways to build more progressive, more inclusive communities, schools, and services that make America (and thus Michigan) stronger.
Issues:
1. Good paying jobs with benefits and the education/training it takes to retain/attract those jobs;
2. Restore our police, fire protection, and infrastructure to the levels we used to have to provide safe, clean communities to live in; and
3. Protect and strategically use our material resources so that we can maintain our natural beauty/treasure for generations to come and get into renewable types of energy production and promotion.
Grassroots Support:
Huge. We are trying very hard to build upon a group we call our "Kitchen Cabinet" and the connections we have to network throughout this whole district and urge as many registered voters as we can to vote for me in November. So, we'll take whatever help we can.
DFA Values:
I believe that government should provide basic vital services like education, police, fire protection, and infrastructure, but beyond that we must keep government spending in line with our state social goals: Provide a good business atmosphere, so we can have good paying jobs with benefits, an educational/training system geared toward attracting jobs, a health care system that gives everyone affordable access, protects our environment and strategically uses our resources, clean safe communities to live in and care about ALL of its citizens.
