Sharon Sund for Congress

Who am I?

Scientist: Sharon Sund launched her career at the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, working to develop the state watershed map. She went on to serve as a scientist with Control Data, a Fortune 500 company in Bloomington, and quickly was at the forefront of the renewable energy field, leading a research team that helped make wind energy batteries more efficient.

Businesswoman: As a manager at a Fortune 500 company, Sund led a large team of researchers and developers to game-changing innovation. She’s also served as a technical communications expert for several major corporations and medical device companies including Target, SuperValu, and St. Jude.

Community Organizer: Through leadership roles at Plymouth Rotary Club, PRISM (People Responding in Social Ministry), the Hennepin County DFL, Plymouth Creek Christian Church, and Pro-Choice Resources, Sharon has an extensive track record of bringing people together to fight effectively for positive change. She built a broad coalition of parents, teachers, labor leaders, faith leaders, and business owners from across the Midwest that together fought for and won improved access to health care.

Mother: As a mother of a child with disabilities, she has become a recognized leader in disability rights advocacy, founding a mentorship program that has helped countless families find the support, community, and resources they need.

Why am I running?

Minnesota families deserve a thriving economy that rewards hard work
and innovation. We need to reinvest in our children, our seniors, our students, and our small business owners.

But my opponent, Erik Paulsen, is part of the PROBLEM in Washington. Paulsen is
radically anti-choice and anti-woman. He is radically anti-equality. And
although he pretends to be a so-called “moderate”, we all know he’s
anything but -- he’s even gone so far as to host fundraisers for Sarah Palin
and Michele Bachmann!

My Goals

In Congress, I'll work tirelessly to ensure that all families
have access to a world-class education, quality health care, a healthy
environment, and that all of us have a voice in the decisions that impact
our lives.

My DFA Values

I’m running because I have faith in our shared
potential--that when we invest in our families and our communities
instead of abandoning them and cutting the programs they rely on--that’s
when we can accomplish great things. That’s Minnesota values!

My Campaign is People Powered!

Winning this district won’t be easy, but I’ve seen us overcome challenges
together before. That’s why I know that together we can build a people-powered
campaign. We can knock on doors; we can welcome thousands of people
into this effort. I’m asking you to join me today. Join this vision and
together we can win the Third Congressional District, we can build a
thriving economy for all families, and finally bring progressive
Minnesota values to Washington.

About the Endorsement Process

The driving force behind all DFA endorsements is our members. We recognize that all politics is local and that what is considered progressive in Los Angeles may be very different from what's considered progressive in Louisville. For this reason, DFA does not have a litmus test of specific progressive positions for which a candidate must stand. Our endorsement is heavily weighted based on these questions:

• Will the candidate move the progressive movement forward in their community?
• Does the candidate have substantial support from our local members?
• Do the candidate's positions and policies fit into the broader progressive movement?
• Is the campaign people-powered and the candidate working to win?

If you have questions, or want to let us know about a candidate in your neighborhood, please call us at (802) 651-3200 or email us at [email protected] .
