Who am I?

A two-term trustee of the College of Marin, a progressive Democrat, who is able to bring consensus on major issues of contention in the community.
A non-profit leader, working with at risk populations. I am currently the head of Parca, an organization that helps those with developmental disabilities and their families with needed services such as housing and jobs.
I have lived and worked in both Marin and Sonoma Counties, and have support from both areas of this diverse district.

Why am I running?

We need bold, committed action now to assure affordable, quality education, prevent disastrous consequences from global climate change, establish “Medicare for all”, universal healthcare, and stitch the social safety net back together to prevent costlier problems. To get this done, we need to get corruption and big money influence out of politics. We should be able to expect better of our legislators: no crimes, no bribes, no loopholes, no secret money. I have more than three decades of experience building public support and political will to get seemingly impossible changes made like smoke free ordinances, and stopping drunk driving. I am running to build the support needed to make the changes that will really make a difference, and I have the track record to make it happen.

My Goals

There is too much at stake in California to accept the status quo. I am running to make the changes needed so that everyone can have the opportunity to thrive, not just those who can afford to make big campaign contributions. Our legislative priorities are dominated by various money interests, and that comes with collateral damage. The budget was balanced on the backs of those most in need and that is not right, and it will cost the state more down the road, while taking an unacceptable toll on people’s lives.

My DFA Values

Affordable, accessible education for all, leading to good jobs with living wages. I will roll back rates at our state schools and universities.
Single payer, "Medicare for all" healthcare system. I will work toward this goal, even while implementing the ACA in California. It is only a step on the way. We must minimize the insurance companies' and big Pharma's hold on our healthcare system.
Fight against the influence of big money in Sacramento. The top-two primary system has not worked, in fact, has increased the influence corporate interests have over candidates. We must pass the Disclose Act, and work to end Citizens United.
Protect the environment, ban fracking, pass an oil extraction tax. Stop the building of the peripheral tunnels. Protect organic farming and work to stop global warming and greenhouse gases. Support renewable resources at all levels.

My Campaign is People Powered!

We are a people-powered campaign, working with a dedicated volunteer field director with roots in Move On and other grassroots campaign efforts. I am proud to be endorsed by the Coalition for Grassroots Progress, and by Norman Solomon, a true grassroots hero, as well as former Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey.

We are walking and holding house parties in all areas of the districts, and our volunteer base is growing every day.

About the Endorsement Process

The driving force behind all DFA endorsements is our members. We recognize that all politics is local and that what is considered progressive in Los Angeles may be very different from what's considered progressive in Louisville. For this reason, DFA does not have a litmus test of specific progressive positions for which a candidate must stand. Our endorsement is heavily weighted based on these questions:

• Will the candidate move the progressive movement forward in their community?
• Does the candidate have substantial support from our local members?
• Do the candidate's positions and policies fit into the broader progressive movement?
• Is the campaign people-powered and the candidate working to win?

If you have questions, or want to let us know about a candidate in your neighborhood, please call us at (802) 651-3200 or email us at [email protected] .
