Beaven For Congress

Background:

I am Heather Beaven. I am a wife and a mother. I am a social entrepreneur. I am a Navy veteran. And I come to you as an average American committed to representing Florida’s 7th District in the US House of Representatives. I am running because I still believe that, through it all, America’s greatest legacy is our commitment to limitless opportunity. Now, it is time that we demand leaders who understand that opportunity is for every American, not just a few.

Goals:

For me, this race is about busting through mediocrity in our leadership because, just over the horizon, I see an America that: inspires children with the infinite possibilities of their own minds, harnesses the energies and intellect of her most innovative people and insures that her veteran's receive all befitting honors.

Issues:

Inspiring learning & teaching:

Our education system is built on a Industrial Age model that is woefully inadequate to keep Americans at the forefront of the Innovation Age. Meeting the challenges of the 21st Century will require us to rethink how we teach, how we learn and how we grade performance. Young Americans, and young Floridians, specifically, are at the bottom of nearly every scale used to measure educational achievement.

Investing in entrepreneurship & job creation:

Our attempts to develop our workforce have been plagued by fragmentation and red tape. America's future is in entrepreneurship. We can and must refocus our economic development efforts on entrepreneurs and community-based businesses. For too long, policy has been focused on steering subsidies to large companies.

Ensuring our Veterans are honored:
After seven years of war, we still are not giving our military service members all of the tools they need in combat or when they return. To provide for those who protected and served us is a most sacred duty.

Grassroots Support:

Grassroots organization is at the root of our campaign. Communities like DFA and other are terrific tools for gathering support, volunteers, staff, and interns that are dedicated to bringing progress to America.

DFA Values:

Social issues have become the core of political action across America. We must find ways to progress on these issues, which include Stem Cell Research, health care reform, and education reform. However, when attempting to progress on these issues, that question of funding arises. Big problems, need big solutions, without leaving a big deficit that our children are going to have to pay for in the future.
