People for Catherine Chambers
| Name: | People for Catherine Chambers |
| Office: | City Council |
| Website: | peopleforcatherine.com |
Background:
I am a community activist and have been involved in many issues over the last 30 years. I spent my working career in social service on such issues as mental health, domestic violence, poverty, child abuse and neglect and youth development. I am an elected Democratic PCO now and have served in two different precincts. I am the President of my local Democratic Women's Organization and the President of the Washington State Federation of Democratic Women. I serve on the Executive Board of the Whatcom County Democratic Central Committee and the Washington State Central Committee. I am the elected State Committee Woman for the 40th Legislative District. I have worked on many local, state and national campaigns.
Goals:
I am running because I want to bring my experience working with difficult issues to the city council to assist in the difficult issues facing our city.
My goal is to help move our community forward to become a vibrant community with a strong economy and good living wage jobs.
To be brave and stand up for what I believe it.
To be available to the members of the community to listen to what they have to say and represent their concerns.
Issues:
1) Responsible living wage job development.
2) Protecting our environment including the lake which is the source of drinking water for all of our city and some of the county.
3) Responsible decision making as it relates to infrastructure for waterfront development; including transporation and revitalization of the urban core.
Grassroots Support:
I am a community driven candidate. I do not have big financial donors or family. I have received many small donations and only one donation over 100. which was from an endorsed group NARAL. I have wide range of supporters from politicians to people I've worked with over the years to those I have served in my working arena. I have gone to senior housing and affordable housing to reach out to people in this community. The grassroots plays an integral part in my campaign and will remain an integral part in my role as a council person. I will continue to be available to the community and meet them in their neighborhoods and homes.
DFA Values:
I am socially progressive because I believe that the decisions we make as a community and a nation must first consider what is the impact on people. Will the decisions made help to move us forward to create a community which supports taking care of those who need it, ability for people to provide for themselves, appropriate housing, health care and access to food.
Fiscally responsible means making decisions about programs which in the long run benefit everyone. Looking at funding in terms of the long range cost such as investing in education, job development, prevention issues such as youth development and drug encarceration. The most important investment we make is in our communities; its children, families, and seniors.
