Who am I?

I am a mother of four in Las Vegas, Nevada. A proud progressive my roots in activism run deep into my childhood. I believe in standing up for others. My greatest joy has been in empowering citizens to make positive changes in their community. We need to learn how to work together rather than continue to embolden those who have so much to gain by keeping citizens apart in their separate camps.

My work experience is diverse from work in a video store as a teen, to contracts for an entertainment company, paralegal services, warehouse management, real estate, and accounting. I took 7 years off from working to raise my children. I didn't sit idle - I worked on local causes and did everything I can to learn about the issues.

Why am I running?

I am running because I believe in fairness and equality for all. When my local democratic party was refusing to run an official candidate in the district where I live because the race would not be "easy" enough to be a guaranteed win I stepped up.

The republican incumbent representing my district voted against marriage equality, against marijuana reform, against animal rights, and against early childhood education. Those are NOT the values of my family nor most of the families I know. If he ran unopposed his brand of extremism would go unchallenged.

I do not have a primary opponent and will appear on the November general election ballot. At best candidates win their election. The best candidates further civil discourse on the important issues of their time.

My Goals

I will stand up to corporate education reform. Tearing apart communities so corporations can cherry pick students and profit is not what is best for our country. I have worked with parents groups against Common Core education standards and with teachers that it is unfair that their very jobs hang on these tests. Concern about what is happening to our schools from the testing and charter schools is a major issue when I knock on doors. I pledge to listen to teachers, students, and parents and refuse all funding from corporate education reform lobbyists.

I will support Nevada's efforts to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment. I have spoken out at rallys and make my support well known. I would co-sponsor a bill.

I will support a registry for those who are convicted of abusing animals. This is common sense legislation that protects our communities. I received the endorsement of Nevada Political Action for Animals and plan to work with them to get the word out.

I support legalization for adult use of marijuana to fund our schools. I have testified on the bill my opponent voted against.

I fully support marriage equality and have spoken out in favor of it. I am a lifelong LGBT ally.

My DFA Values

My values are that as Americans we are stronger together as people than compartmentalized into focus groups of rage. When we talk citizen to citizen there is so much more that we agree on, than hate each other over. I want to do what I can to end the fear that we have of each other in our community to see what groups benefit the most from keeping us divided.

I have yet to ever meet a family concerned if corporations are making enough money. They instead tell me how 3 generations are living under one roof and 1 or 2 shrinking paychecks have to struggle to pay it all.

I was not born with a silver spoon in my mouth. My family struggled raising me, and I struggled as a young mother. I want to look in the eyes of every young person and tell them they have the very same opportunities. It is my duty to pay it forward in memory of all who have done so much to get me on my way.

My Campaign is People Powered!

I have been involved in grassroots campaigns in my community since 2010. Before that I was involved in campaigns in California and Oregon. I have taken several steps to keep it people powered:

* I have one of Las Vegas' most active twitter accounts I engage frequently and build followers steadily.

* I have a Facebook page that is growing followers organically as to keep the engagement local. I run ads to acquire new followers and keep my name up there in the streams of locals in only the zipcodes in my district.

*I run on the NationBuilder platform because it was the most agile for incorporating social media and the use of text messaging.

*I plan to use GPRS dataservices to cross target likely voters for my campaign during early voting.

*As a former local radio show producer I know several hosts who want to have me on their shows. We were waiting to be post primary season. I do not have a primary so my appearance is confusing to voters.

About the Endorsement Process

The driving force behind all DFA endorsements is our members. We recognize that all politics is local and that what is considered progressive in Los Angeles may be very different from what's considered progressive in Louisville. For this reason, DFA does not have a litmus test of specific progressive positions for which a candidate must stand. Our endorsement is heavily weighted based on these questions:

• Will the candidate move the progressive movement forward in their community?
• Does the candidate have substantial support from our local members?
• Do the candidate's positions and policies fit into the broader progressive movement?
• Is the campaign people-powered and the candidate working to win?

If you have questions, or want to let us know about a candidate in your neighborhood, please call us at (802) 651-3200 or email us at [email protected] .
