Who Am I?

I am a 20+ year veteran of the U.S. Navy, having retired in 2008 as a Master Chief Petty Officer. In my last six years of active duty, I served side-by-side with General Tommy Franks, General John Abizaid and Admiral William Fallon. I travelled to the combat zones of Afghanistan and Iraq on over 30 occasions.

I received by Bachelor's of Science in Government from University of Maryland, University College.

I received by Juris Doctorate from Concord University School of Law in 2007.

Why Am I Running?

I ran in 2008, against Adam Putnam, because I knew that my service to our country would be better served as a Representative of the people and not in uniform. My desire to institute and continue the changes we voted for in 2008 remain true. My tested and proven leadership abilities, with my military discipline, give me the skills needed to work effectively for those changes.

Hold Me Accountable!

* Improved security, both domestically and abroad. I want to see an end in Iraq's civil war.
* True Healthcare Reform. I support single-payer healthcare. I understand this is a goal that may have to be achieved in incremental steps.
* Broader prosperity in our economy to benefit the most people. There are many aspects of our economy that are either in need of regulation enforcement or true stimulation.

My DFA values:

I believe in equal civil rights for every man and woman, including those in our GLBT community. I believe that healthcare is a right and not a privilege. I believe in a woman's right to choose. I support rescinding Don't Ask, Don't Tell and the Defense of Marriage Act. These are more than just political stances for me; these are positions on which I believe we all should agree.

In regards to fiscal responsibility, I support the enforcement and strengthening of the existing regulations in our financial markets. This simple action could have lessened the economic downturn we are working our way out of currently. I strongly support taxing companies that outsource their work force beyond the American borders; and also support higher tax breaks that keep their work forces 100% American based. I do not believe in unfunded mandates in regards to education. Put simply, I believe that you fund your priorities.

My Campaign is People-Powered!

The two key members of my grassroots staff are alumni of both DFA and Wellstone trainings. From volunteer organization, to GOTV efforts, we are structuring a true grassroots campaign. We continue to be proud of the fact that since the 2008 campaign, we have garnered the long working hours of the activists in the District.
