Who am I?

I am a husband and a proud father of two beautiful children! A first-generation American of Mexican parents.

I am a life-long activist devoted to the struggle of the poor and the working-class. I will continue to fight tirelessly to ensure every citizen is represented regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, political affiliation, immigration status, or religious beliefs.

I currently own a fully sustainable, full-maintenance lawn care company that uses renewable energy to operate all of our equipment. As a self-employed worker, I believe in encouraging the growth of self-employment.

Why am I running?

I was inspired to run because of my interactions and conversations with people in my community. My community is struggling, and we are struggling because of policies that are put in place and because our State is not adapting to the changes around us. Drastic cuts were made to education in the previous years - these cuts were felt throughout our community - by school closures, educators being laid-off, and school programs being completely removed form our curriculum. Our community needs pre-K education, after school programs, well-qualified educators ... not more cuts. People are struggling because they can hardly make ends meet. Even having a full-time job does not necessarily mean that one is out of poverty ... we need jobs that pay a living wage. That is basically why I am running. Because I know that I will always fight for my community and my State --- and put Texans first! I know I can make a difference and I know I can contribute to making Texas a better place for all.

My Goals

1. Education - Fully-fund education - Reinstating education cuts that have been made.
2. Equality - Supporting legislation that legalizes same-sex marriage. Ensuring that legislation is passed that guarantees equal pay for equal work ... which includes increasing the minimum wage.
3. Immigration - Protect and expand protections under the Texas DREAM Act.

My DFA Values

Community - A strong community means having a strong foundation for future generations. Our community collectively benefits from having a strong education system for our children, from having good paying jobs with access to affordable health care for all workers, from providing the freedom and opportunity to everyone to achieve the American dream, from protecting our fragile environment, and from ensuring we can retire in relative comfort and dignity.
Security - We must lead and partner to create a sustainable future. This means that we make a strong commitment to reducing our impact to man-made climate change and begin a shift to sustainable sources of energy while reducing our dependence on oil. By investing in new technologies, we are creating jobs and investing in our own infrastructure and in our own future.
Liberty - I will fight for equality and discrimination and ensure that everyone is treated equally under the law. I believe in fair and equal treatment.

My Campaign is People Powered!

We have a strong team dedicated to outreach within our community. Our community has been historically ignored by politicians and many people have become cynical of our electoral process. We have made great progress in engaging our communities. As a Latino, along with two other campaign staff members, we have conducted several events in our predominantly Latino community to understand and hear the issues that matter and are important. We also have two additional campaign staff members who are focused on engaging our African-American community. We have also proactively reached out to churches, community events, and community leaders to ask for a an ongoing partnership as we become more and more involved in electoral politics.

About the Endorsement Process

The driving force behind all DFA endorsements is our members. We recognize that all politics is local and that what is considered progressive in Los Angeles may be very different from what's considered progressive in Louisville. For this reason, DFA does not have a litmus test of specific progressive positions for which a candidate must stand. Our endorsement is heavily weighted based on these questions:

• Will the candidate move the progressive movement forward in their community?
• Does the candidate have substantial support from our local members?
• Do the candidate's positions and policies fit into the broader progressive movement?
• Is the campaign people-powered and the candidate working to win?

If you have questions, or want to let us know about a candidate in your neighborhood, please call us at (802) 651-3200 or email us at [email protected] .
