Who Am I?

I am running for my 4th term as State Representative. I first got into politics by working on Governor Howard Dean's presidential campaign. He persuaded me to run for office myself in the fall of 2004. I ran as a write-in candidate and won. I have been fortunate enough since then to be re-elected twice. I want to keep up the fight for a progressive agenda which includes improving on our jobs initiative, health care, a clean environment and renewable energy. For the first time I have 4 Republican opponents. So it will be my toughest campaign yet.

Why Am I Running?

I am running to preserve all the good legislation we have been able to pass in the past four years that we Democrats have held the majority. I do not want to see all our good work destroyed by thoughtless repeals. There is so much work to yet be finished. As all states, we are fighting significant loss of revenues. I want to help restore a balanced budget without increasing property taxes. I want to protect our precious natural resources and to preserve water quality and quantity in our state. I want to prevent off-shore drilling anywhere in the vicinity of New England. I want to expand the Governor's jobs initiative. And most importantly,I want to continue to fight to improve on the recent federal health care bill. We still need a Public Option.

Hold Me Accountable!

The first is jobs. I will explain how our Governor's job initiatives bill is helping them. I will also let them know how we were able to keep the opposition's draconian cuts out of the final state budget that would have affected them even more adversely. I will explain how the new federal health care bill while still needs work, has many very good things in it that will definately help them. I will explain how I am able to help preserve all that is good and natural in our NH environment through my committee work and the bills I have sponsored.

My DFA values:

As with many states much of the political attitude is mired in old ideas and old resolutions. It is difficult to fight establishment power in one's own party. However, a group of us are planning to form a Progressive Caucus including both individuals holding public office and activists that want to really see the actual change we have been talking about. We will meet to form a plan that can be implemented over time. Change does take time and first we have to set down specific goals in a plan and directions on how to get the job done.

My Campaign is People-Powered!

All my campaign money in the past has come from individuals I have met through the Dean Campaign. The only PAC contribution has come from DFA. This will be my 4th term to use my same yard signs. Last election I did purchase voter lists from the towns. Unfortunately, they were over 8 years old and 3/4 of my mailed literature was returned because of inaccurate addresses. I will try to use the DNC "vote builder" this time. I also do all of my direct campaigning by going door-to-door with lit in hand. This is the most effective.
