Who Am I?

Sean Hubbard is a proud Texas Democrat who is running for U.S. Senate. Born in Austin, Sean grew up, the eldest of three children. At the age of five his family relocated to the small town of Scurry, just outside of Dallas. Sean spent his childhood in Scurry where small town values were impressed upon him. Growing up Sean spent his summers on his grandparents’ farm in Whitewright, Texas helping his grandfather bale hay and learning the value of hard work. Heavily influenced by the military service of both of his grandfathers and his grandmother’s love of politics, Sean developed a strong admiration for public service, which led him to decide to run for U.S. Senate and work on behalf of the everyday Texan.

After graduating from Scurry-Rosser High School, Sean attended the University of Texas at Dallas, earning a BA in Government and Politics with a minor in Economics. While attending UTD Sean became involved with the Molera For Congress Campaign, acting as a strategy director during the 2002 election. Sean has spent his professional career working for small businesses and knows how important the value of a dollar is to so many small business owners. In 2008 Sean worked with Obama Dallas to coordinate outreach efforts, and develop the Obama Dallas Field Plan.

Sean married Jamie Van in 2008 and they continue to reside in the Dallas area. Sean is committed to representing Texans in Washington and is committed to bringing the voice of the everyday Texan to the U.S. Senate.

Why Am I Running?

It is time that a real Texan represents Texas. We don't need another millionaire; we need someone who understands the everyday struggles of ordinary Americans. I, like most Texans, am not wealthy. I have to work for my paycheck every week and I will someday need my Medicare and Social Security. I want to represent all of the hardworking Texans across the state.

I am also tired of watching Democrats run as Republican-Light. It is time for us to shake loose the timidity that has gripped our party for more than two decades. We have allowed Republicans to define the Democratic Party, but no more, not in this race. What we must do is remind Texans what the Democratic Party stands for and that is exactly what I plan to do. I will remind the people of Texas that we are the party of the Good Samaritan, so let us not ask ourselves “If I stop to help this man, what will happen to me”, but instead ask ourselves “If I don’t stop to help this man what will happen to him.” I plan to campaign in strong support of progressive ideals because it has always been progressive ideals that have gotten our nation through difficult times. Our greatest attribute as Texans and as Americans is and has always been our ability to come together when faced with adversity.

When I get to the Senate I will make sure education is accessible and affordable. I want us to hire more teachers, not less. Our education system is the engine of our economy and if we want to compete for jobs, we must have the workforce to fill those jobs. Most of all I want to make our government work for the average working person, instead of corporations and the ultra wealthy.

Hold Me Accountable!

Economy/Jobs
Sean knows that in a troubled economy, the first priority for Congress is getting people back to work. Investing in our national infrastructure can do this; we can put people back to work rebuilding our roads and bridges. Employers can be encouraged to increase their hiring with a tax credit for every new worker that they hire. We must adapt our workforce for the new global economy by retraining our workers, so lets prepare our workers for jobs in emerging industries, such as green energy, by giving tax credits to those who get vocational training in these new industries. We have recovered from worse times than this and we can do it once again.

Immigration
It is time to find a solution to the issue of immigration. We must not only develop a solution for the undocumented immigrants that are already here but also discourage further violations of our immigration laws. Sean believes strongly in ensuring an orderly and documented immigration process. The D.R.E.A.M. Act is a step in the right direction, so long as those who earn citizenship are not allowed to sponsor new immigrants. It is time to reform outdated immigration policies and recognize the important role that immigrants play within our state, national and global economy. Immigration is the essence of the American Story and a top priority for Sean.

Education
Being the product of the public education system, Sean understands the importance of saving our teachers’ jobs and our education system. In order for the United States to meet the challenges of the new global economy we must have a first class education system. Sean understands the education system is the engine of our economy and that our children deserve the opportunity to compete in the global economy. Sean supports putting multiple teachers in classrooms and developing uniform national textbook standards. He will push for a National Education Council made up of teachers, administrators, and parents charged with making recommendations for curriculum and textbook standards for the nation’s schools.

Energy
Sean supports increasing federal investments for clean energy development within Texas. We can become the top clean energy production and development nation and Texas should lead way. The development of a clean energy industry within Texas will lead not only to energy independence and cleaner air, but also to thousands of new jobs for Texans. In the past, Texas has been a leading producer of energy and fossil fuel within the U.S. As we work towards energy independence for our nation it is important that Texas be a leader in the ever-developing clean energy industry.

My Campaign is People-Powered!

We are going to do less of the traditional campaigning such as media buys and mass mail. We are going to focus on face-to-face voter contact. We have put together a plan to knock on more doors and make more person-to-person phone calls than any other campaign in the history of Texas. Instead of relying on big donors we are going to rely on the average person to donate what they can. I am going to the Senate to represent real working people, not big corporations, so that is who I want to support my campaign.
