Who Am I?
I am a living example of the American Dream. I grew up in Nepal, one of the poorest countries in the world, where I was lucky enough to attend a high school built with help from the American people. After high school, I came to the United States of America to pursue my higher education. I received an undergraduate degree in Electronics, and a Masters in Business Administration. Using my education, I became a successful technology entrepreneur, founding a successful flash memory company.
I live in Bothell, Washington, with my two school-aged boys, and my wife, a local pediatrician.
I've lived the American Dream, and I want to give back to this country that has given me so much.
Why Am I Running?
The United States of America gave me opportunities to be successful. The American Dream was accessible and real when I came here 20 years ago, but as we've all seen, that dream is fading for many. The American experiment was built on the foundation laid by our Founding Fathers - that everyone would have the chance to pursue life, liberty and happiness for all.
We are the richest nation in the world, yet 50 million are without access to health insurance, our education system is ranked as "average", and our government goes out of its way to make it easier for corporations to ship our jobs overseas. This is unacceptable - we can and we must do better. I am running to restore the American Dream for future generations, and to give back to this country that has given me so much. Our policy needs to reflect who we are as a nation and people. We need to have sound policy that takes care of this country and people first and foremost.
Hold Me Accountable!
We must get Congress working for the American people once again. As a non-politician, I will reach out to other members of Congress who aren't career politicians - on both sides of the aisle - and work with them to cut through the partisan rhetoric and gridlock, and do the work of the American people. We may have ideological differences, but as new members of Congress we will still be able to stand outside the current power dynamic of DC, and work together for common sense solutions for our constituents.
Second, I will fight to keep jobs in America. We must fix any and all government policies that make it easy or profitable for companies to ship our jobs overseas. We must close the tax loopholes that allow corporations to write off business expenses associated with moving their operations and jobs off-shore.
Both of these are basic ideas, and no-brainers in my book. It is past time to get Congress working for the American people again.
My DFA values:
Unlike many in this race, I am not a career politician - I am running to represent the people of Washington's 1st District, not the special interests that have come to dominate Washington DC. I am not beholden to the political establishment, and will do what is best for my constituents. I've been involved in my local party for quite some time, and think it is a great way to engage in political discourse and affect change. I will work hard to get my supporters to join their local Democratic organizations and stay engaged. I will advocate for free and fair policies in the Democratic party from the bottom up, and the a transparent so everyone have an opportunity to engage and have their voices heard.
My Campaign is People-Powered!
