Who Am I?
Meet Lawson C. Stuart, candidate for DNC Delegate in 2012.
Lawson has worked in Sacramento ever since he got out of the Active Duty United States Air Force. Currently a reservist out of Travis Air Force Base, he still spends one weekend a month and two weeks every year maintaining his ability to deploy in service to our country should he be needed. His current job with the Air Force is 'Fire Protection Journeyman' (AFSC 3E751).
His full-time civilian job is that of a Paramedic. He responds to hospital to hospital transfers and emergency calls in the Sacramento area. He works with a partner and together they perform emergency treatments to the sick and injured patients they are called to serve. He has been a Paramedic since 2005 and is a graduate of the Paramedic Program at National College of Technical Instruction (NCTI).
In his final year of the Political Science BA program, Lawson attends American Military University which is through American Public University System, an online program created for people in positions of military and/or public service who cannot attend traditional classes. Upon graduation, he will have achieved the Bachelors of the Arts in Political Science, with a Minor in Management and and Undergraduate Certificate in Military Leadership Studies. He plans to proceed directly into a Graduate program as soon as he graduates so, once that is completed, he can return to full-time service to his country as an Officer in the military.
Although he is a dedicated Roman Catholic, he believes in the separation of religion from the running of the government, and supports keeping church and state in different parts of our lives so all citizens of this country can continue to experience the religious freedom sought by our Founding Fathers and set as our standard in the First Amendment of the Constitution. He is a strong believer that through our religious freedom, we can have a faith without dismissing the rights of others to believe as they choose.
He has been involved in several campaigns every election year since 1994. In 2008, he was proud to cast his personal vote for then-Senator Obama, along with several other candidates for the offices in California. He was raised in a Republican household, but through the course of his education in Politics, he switched to become a Democrat in 2005. He has since then staunchly supported the party and its efforts to progress the nation toward greater and greater heights.
Why Am I Running?
If elected as a Delegate, he will be one of the four men and three women to be sent from California's 5th Congressional District (CA D-5), represented in the House of Representatives by the Honorable Doris Matsui. He is determined to utilize this campaign as a method to accomplish the following goals:
1- Educate the general public on the process of delegate selection and their role in the party nomination process.
2- Unite the Democratic population of CA D-5 behind their party and the candidates running for office in 2012 under the party name.
3- Participate actively and directly in the re-nomination of President Barrack H. Obama for a second term.
"If elected, I would have one of the greatest honors of my lifetime:
The chance to represent the Democrats of California's 5th Congressional District at the Democratic National Convention and our desire to re-nominate our President for four more years of progress and 'Change We Can Believe In'."
Hold Me Accountable!
1. I will vote to re-nominate the President for another term of office as our leader.
2. I will build on the educational process begun by my campaign and continue to help other people become more involved in the local and state and national levels of their political parties, especially Democrats.
My DFA values:
I am a firm believer in the power of the local community to influence their government and their elections. The people at these 'low' levels always have the best grasp on what is going on and how things can be fixed. We cannot be forgotten! We cannot be left out!
This campaign embodies the DFA Values because it is being done for the sake of educating people, many of whom have never heard of these delegations, on the process of choosing delegates to national and state conventions!
My Campaign is People-Powered!
We are in the community!
My supporters and I hold our events in coffee houses and other public locations. And these events are held in my preferred style of conversational gatherings instead of other event styles that let people listen to you without really giving them the chance to ask questions, guide the conversations, etc.
We are grassroots!
The campaign is also being used to help people develop their own grassroots efforts for local offices and for this same position I am running for. We are working to educate people on how they can become more involved in their local party process even when elections are not occurring.
Election for this campaign has passed.
