Who Am I?
I learned very quickly to seek opportunities in unexpected places. I improvise when lacking a tool or material to solve a particular problem. As a legislator I will constantly seek ways to achieve solutions with the best possible alternative possible.
Improvising a developing school network of 200 computers were the first of many challenges. This was made possible by a Malmstrom Air Force Base equipment donation. MY students learned Japanese, French, and Spanish through distance learning using satellite. I had a significant role in designing an interactive television network with 3Rivers Telecommunications, I was a resource to other Montana schools for eRate applications. In 1997, I was involved with Page Werner Architects in the design of a library lab for computers, and instituted library automation. I moved on to install other labs for both the elementary and high school classrooms. Belt Valley High School pioneered introduction to broadcasting through the Belt TV cable system with the local high school business class.
Now I have found the new industry of computer service jobs for home computing, MY home business serves local neighborhoods and HP warranty service contracts. My advice for Americans who buy American products, insist that you speak to American customer service when you have a problem with a computer or the new tablets. Ask for a North American when dealing with customer service. The extra wait is worth it.
I have worked in several service industry jobs part time. NEW warranty service for 3rd party repair of Best Buy appliances, Sam Goody Music Stores and other retail electronic sales. As a service technician for the Center for Mental Health, I learned technical support and hardware repair of computers. Finally, as a field technician for the Public Health service I learned the practical lessons in terms of our state and nation's lack of affordable health care and misuse of drugs. There is still a growing drug abuse problem.
Why Am I Running?
Jobs, Healthcare, Education
Everyone deserves a chance to work for and live in a decent home, make enough to pay their bills, send their children to great schools, be able to go to a doctor, and work for a decent pension when they are ready to retire. A recent ABC News Report "Made in America" declared that if 5% more American made products were used in building 220,000 jobs are saved or created. For instance 90% of all the nails used are made in China. Builders need only look at their materials list and look for American made products and make a small a adjustment to benefit all Americans.
Whatever your persuasion whether business or government. Profit or non-profit we need people thinking. We need to be finding solutions to significant problems. Montana is an energy producing state. Everyday the wind blows, the sun shines, and waters move in Montana. We need to put a lasso around this energy and turn it into electricity.
Invent again electric trains, electric tractors, and electric cars. Find ways to store energy for instance, using new air batteries that store more electricity or pump-storage generation for water, compressed air for wind, co-generate local power that never has to make a round trip to the state. We have had herds of cattle, and in the future, we will have herds of electrons in this state.
Challenge ourselves to go back to school, learn a new trade, or imagine our role in a new future. Getting back to making things is what our companies need to do now.
We need to get out there and start looking forward. Come discuss your ideas with the folks in the legislature. Nobody makes it on their own in this economy whether in this state or in the world. We have a university system with plenty of people eager to work and learn. People learning are not a burden but a promise of new things to come.
Hold Me Accountable!
First, take the ideas of our popular Governor Brian Schweitzer to innovate energy production with carbon sequestration. The world is quickly finding ways to create policies that foster growth. Future growth depends on switching from climate changing technology to a world of low global impact electrical generation. You should be able to see new energy production and fiber communications projects green-lighted.
Second, improve our image as great hosts to visitors to our state as a great place to get away. When we get them here help our newcomers discover what a great environment it is to raise a family or build a great company. Education cannot be sacrificed to budget cuts without long term costs to our future. A new kind of education that includes the learning of new skills required in a service and information society. We need to return to a country that builds and manufactures its own products again. Montana leaves many technical jobs unfilled. That will change.
My DFA values:
The last biennial budget contained misleading numbers that led to budget cuts to vital programs that no longer benefit a single Montanan, Tom wants to work hard to protect those who are vulnerable and invest in energy that positions Montana for growth. He wants to return education to its role of creating opportunity. Rather than stonewall and debate endlessly Tom wants to join other legislators to get on their with business. We all want a bright Montana future, we have to make decisions, and we need to move on to other problems.
Our senior citizens, our families, our students, and our vulnerable populations deserve dignity through decent health insurance and neighborhoods safe from ravages of recession and poverty. Tom Glover wants to visit you at home or at any local events to get your ideas and what you believe your neighbors want to help us all grow together.
It is important to protect vulnerable people, help people develop needed skills to help them find jobs and ensure a good education system. Our education system must include an effective pre-K through 16 system, career-technical education, and smart workforce development.
My Campaign is People-Powered!
Vision:
Starting from those commitments to education and safety, Tom is going to advocate opportunities that benefit our students and help them become contributors to the growth of Great Falls and Montana.
Opportunities like building and designing efficient energy generation and transmission, as well as, a necessity for new agricultural production tools.
The book "Megatrends" predicted opportunities in medical technology, communication, and computing called hi-tech. Hi-touch was opportunities for Montanans in health care, assisted living as well as the performing arts.
Great Falls is one of several Montana locations that attracts talented people because we're great hosts to visitors. It is a central location east-west and north-south in a 200 mile bullseye of Montana communities and well inside a 1000 mile circle of opportunity to Seattle, Minneapolis, Denver, and Edmonton, Canada
