Who Am I?
My name is Doug Urquidi, (Er-Key-Dee).
I am an Alaskan first and a Democrat by choice. I am running for U.S. Congress as the key to a new beginning for Alaska. In 1977, I was presented with Heroism metal by the Boy Scouts of America, National Court of Honor for unusual heroism and extraordinary skill and resourcefulness in saving Robert C. Urquidi's life at extreme risk to self.
My son Anthony, was born in 2002 and I named after him after St. Anthony; Anthony later that year he was baptized in Russia.
In 2008, I received a blessing for years of faithful service to the Orthodox Church by Metropolitan Herman, Archbishop of Washington, New York and the Metropolitan of All America and Canada.
I have worked 30 years in construction, have a BA in Project Management, an Alaska Journeyman Electrical license and am working as site foreman. I am a average guy... have lived a long life and have made my share of mistakes over the years. I have learned from them and striveing to be a better man. In doing so, I want to help the state and people I love.
Why Am I Running?
It’s time we start supporting our hard working families and ensure we maintain a strong middle class.
As your Congressman, the buck stops here. I will put Alaska First! I believe that Alaskans should expect from there only Congressman... honest service and loyal, faithful, disinterested, unbiased service to All Alaskans. He should not be in it for self-enrichment or be part of any fraud and corruption. This is a grass root campaign, special interests will not control me and I will work for all Alaskans.
I am an Army veteran, a fighter, and am an Alaskan by choice. I have dedicated this campaign to creating for Alaska and for America good paying jobs with good paying benefits, as well as fighting to protect family’s and Main Street businesses because they are the backbone of this great country.
Some of my key views are, but not limited to:
- Veteran health care cards, for all honorably discharged veterans of all branches of service.
- I will be the voice for all Alaskans to include all branches of the military’s, I will fight for more funding for public projects.
- Our Public education: improving schools where students come first. I will introduce a bill to have 90% of current federal dollars that goes to the school systems, be more focused on the student and academics. This will Permit schools to use funds as needed to ensure students graduate from high school, college and are career-ready.
- In Alaska, the highest mountain peak in North America is, Mount McKinley. The Koyukon Athabaskan people who inhabit the area around the mountain referred to the peak as Denali "The Great One" it should have its name returned. Denali National Park should be renamed to McKinley National Park. In the late 1890's a gold prospector named Denali "McKinley" served as political support for then-president William McKinley. McKinley's home state was Ohio, their congressional delegation continue to protect the McKinley name, blocking attempts to change it back to Denali. Why is Ohio telling Alaska what it can do?
- I believe that it's time for new blood in Washington DC. If I am elected, I will be in touch with the people. When I return from Washington DC, I will have open public forms. When you or a group goes to Washington DC, to see me, I will make time for you. As your Representative, you will always come first.
Hold Me Accountable!
1) Alaska first: creating more good paying Jobs
2) I will fight and get more funding to help victims of DV and mandate those funds for their assistance., introduce a bill to protect victims of post traumatic stress disorder "PTSD", So that they can get the help and protection they need and are entitled to. Make more Financial aid available, victims should not have to worry about losing their homes and livelihoods.

My DFA values:
I support our hard working families I will ensure we maintain a strong middle class and provide good paying jobs for all.
I believe in helping those in need and providing safeguard to ensure we have a strong economy. We must better protect our boarder. I support small businesses, they are why America is the great country it is.
I am for honest government, it seams to me, more that ten years of service they tend to lose why they went DC in the first place this is why I support term limits for all. I believe in it so much I will not serve longer than eight years.
My Campaign is People-Powered!
I am reaching out to all Alaskans, from the ground up.
I am talking to all, gathering support. Talking about and lessening to everyone's concerns.
