Who Am I?

My name is Tom Guild. I have a BA in Political Science from the University of Oklahoma and a JD from Southern Methodist University School of Law. Professionally I taught for 27 years at the University of Central Oklahoma and 3 years at Oklahoma City University. I am a Democrat, a Methodist, a Pianist, a Weight Lifter and I love to travel, particularly to Mexico. I live in Edmond, OK, and am 57 years old. During my teaching career I taught 10 years in the UCO Political Science Department, 17 years in the UCO College of Business Administration and 3 years teaching exclusively MBA students at Oklahoma City University.

Why Am I Running?

I want to protect Social Security, preserve Medicare, require full disclosure and transparency in campaign finance reform, promote and fund public education to make America competitive in the world economy so that our people will have the opportunity to enjoy good careers. I am pro choice, pro collective bargaining, pro human rights and believe that the United States should quit trying to be the policeman of the world and that we should extricate ourselves from the war in Afghanistan as soon as we can safely bring our troops home and the Afghans can hold their country together.

Hold Me Accountable!

Finding a way to extend the life of Medicare and to protect the program and require the disclosure of all campaign contributions to "Super" PAC's.

My DFA values:

All people should have an equal opportunity to pursue their lives, liberty and their pursuit of happiness. The law should level the playing field so that all have an opportunity to achieve their dreams and pursue their happiness. We need to make sure that people are not discriminated against based on race, religion, ethnicity, national origin, religion/non religion, sexual orientation, disability and sex. The rights in the Bill of Rights should be strictly enforced so that all Americans enjoy free speech, freedom of religion, the right to privacy, due process and equal protection of the laws.

My Campaign is People-Powered!

We recently put up two 8 foot by 20 foot billboards on I-40 in the district. One of our volunteers raised money in increments of $35 to purchase the signs and he organized a local work crew that put up the billboards so that those traveling both east and west on the interstate can clearly see them.

We just moved into our new campaign office yesterday. People brought chairs, tables, coffee pots, a small refrigerator, food, coffee, napkins, cleaning rags etc. Volunteers cleaned the office and the area outside the office (stairwells, glass windows in the entry area and glass doors) to prepare for our official announcement today. We bought a sturdy music stand and everything else (sound system) etc. were donated. We had our office up and running in two days and hosted a major event and reception, with 30 volunteers present for the announcement of candidacy and the office open house.
