David Gill for U.S. House, IL 15
| Name: | David Gill for U.S. House, IL 15 |
| Office: | U.S. House, IL 15 |
| Website: | gill2006.com |
Background:
I am a husband, and father of three children. I'm a Emergency Room doctor in a small town. I do volunteer work for Planned Parenthood, my local YMCA, a local nursing home, and the Salvation Army. I am a substitute teacher. I understand the burden of financial hardship, having grown up in a single-parent home after age 9. I strongly believe that we must replace the Washington elitists who haven't a clue what life is really like for the majority of Americans.
Goals:
I am a physician who is all too aware of our need for a National Healthcare Program, for reasons of both fiscal responsibility and for provision of adequate care to all.
Issues:
1-- Health care financing reform
2-- Correction of federal deficit, primarily via reversal of Bush tax cuts for wealthiest Americans
3-- Need for common sense within politics of health care, e.g., federal financing of embryonic stem cell research (rather than simply disposing of surplus blastocysts at fertility clinics) and increasing availability of Emergency Contraception (to significantly decrease rates of unwanted pregnancies and abortions).
Grassroots Support:
My 2004 campaign was entirely a grassroots effort, with the labor of hundreds of volunteers helping to create a reasonably competitive race in a "Red" district long ignored by the Democratic establishment; my 2006 campaign will be run in similar fashion.
DFA Values:
As a longtime member and advocate of the plan proposed by Physicians for a National Health Program (www.pnhp.org), I recognize that National Health Care will raise the quality of care for all Americans.
