“Rise Up! The System is Broken” Unity Rally: Mandate for Cha

November 28, 2007 - Rise Up! The System is Broken Unity Rally! That will be the rallying cry from 2:00 – 10 P.M. on Wednesday, November 28 at Pioneer Park - located at One Beach Drive South East St. Petersburg - where hundreds of like-minded Floridians will set aside political differences and peacefully assemble to protest what they describe as a failed system of government.

“It’s time for everyone – regardless of party, race, color or creed – to rise up and take an active role in taking back our Constitution,” declared co-organizer Michael Fox, a Pinellas County Democratic Executive Committee member and a State Coordinator for Progressive Democrats of America. “We have to get involved, or the country we grew up in will be gone.”

The day’s festivities include voter registration, a Presidential straw poll, abundant networking and education opportunities and a Press Conference staring at 5:30 P.M.

The Unity March begins at 6:30, just before the CNN cameras start to roll inside the Mahaffey Theater, the site of the St. Petersburg Republican Presidential Debate. Concerned Florida citizens will take their “Rise Up! The System is Broken!“signs and proceed to an approved location outside the theater.

Veteran and co-organizer Dan Tucker, a life-long Republican, believes its time to make a noise. ”I’ve always advocated core American values: the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. We the people share many issues: our diminished civil liberties, the abuse of our military, stolen elections, job losses, legalized torture, destroyed borders, increased poverty and federal debt.”

Sponsoring groups for Rise Up! The System is Broken Unity Rally! include: Florida Consumer Action Network, Hillsborough, Pasco and Pinellas Democratic Executive Committees, Progressive Democrats of America, Ron Paul for President Meet Ups, Tallahassee Code Pink, Tampa Bay Democracy for America and Veterans for Peace. Others participating are: Florida Peace Action Network, Military Families Speak Out, Florida Rainbow PUSH Coalition, Dennis Kucinich for President Meet Ups, and Mike Gravel for President Meet Ups.
