Have you ever wondered about how the mysterious Iowa caucuses work? Have you ever thought it would be interesting to attend one?

For those of you that have not decided on a presidential candidate, this will also be a great opportunity to hear from grassroots supporters of the all the Democratic candidates about why their candidate is the best choice to be our next president.

We have arranged spokespersons for many of the Democratic candidates:

  • Joe Biden - Tony Quinn, Wyndmoor
  • Bill Richardson - Ben Gross, Lansdale
  • Dennis Kucinich - Paul Roden, Yardley
  • Barack Obama - Jules Mermelstein, Upper Dublin
  • John Edwards - Bruce Bailey, Collegeville
  • Hillary Clinton - Sandy Kyrish. Springfield

Join us at the Jenkintown Library on January 3 (the same day as the real Iowa caucuses, by the way) for the officially unofficial Montco Mock Caucuses and find out what it's like to be a voter in Iowa on caucus day. We'll have representatives of the presidential campaigns in attendance to tell you why you should support their candidate and lobby you for your vote and then you'll have an opportunity to stand up for your choice.

  • Doors will open at 7:00 and you'll have an opportunity to ask questions of the candidate's reps.
  • At 7:30 each candidate rep will be given an opportunity to address the entire group.
  • Around 8:00 you'll be asked to migrate to a designated part of the room and stand with other supporters of your candidate.
  • Should any candidate fail to get the support of 15% of the caucusers, they must release their supporters and allow them to support a different candidate in a second round. The candidate reps whose supporters are "released" will be allowed an opportunity to suggest which candidate their supporters should move to and the other candidates' reps can lobby them to move to their corner.

This is what makes a caucus interesting, there is a lot of "arm-twisting" and political wrangling and you may have to vote for your "second" choice.

Then we'll fire up the TV and keep an eye on the goings on in Iowa and see how our selections compare to the caucusers in the Hawkeye State.

C'mon, this will be fun!

This sounds like a great idea. I never fully understood the caucus system.
