Woo hoo! Summer!

We're celebrating by joining up a DFA Family & Friends Picnic with Linda Stender to the Opening Night Free Concert at Duke Island State Park, Sunday June 29. And the night begins with a great opportunity to come together, and roll up our sleeves to help the United Way assemble gifts & thank-yous to our troops, food for area food banks, packages for families in transition, a river trail cleanup, help for horse carriage therapy for kids and much more. SPECIAL GUEST: The new Obama Fellow for Central NJ - Steve Popper.

When: Sunday, June 29
5:00-6:30pm - Volunteer activities (trail cleanup, troop gifts, arts/crafts & items for those in need) People of all ages & families are welcome - there are projects for all ages & abilities
7:00-8:30pm - Big Shot (Billy Joel Tribute) & Picnic
Where: Duke Island Park (Somerset County)
Chow down: Bring picnic basket for your family & a dessert to share. Or visit concession & ice cream truck
We provide: Plates, cups & utensils, napkins etc.
Bring: Lawn chairs or blanket
Look for our big DFA banners & grab your space near the bandshell
Everybody: Families invited! Friends invited!

Important! Concert is FREE, but please bring non-perishable food items for area Food Banks THANKS!
Want to be a REAL ROCK STAR? Bring a whole grocery bag of food for hungry NJ families.
Requested items for the Food Banks:
high-protein food, peanut butter, canned meats, boxed milk (Parmalat), soup, canned fruit, canned veggies, spaghetti sauce, tomato sauce, cereal

Not a fundraiser! But if you want to bring a check to send Linda Stender to Washington (and get a woman from NJ in Congress!), please do! Checks are also welcome for NJ for Democracy, the Garden State work center of the nation's largest progressive political action community!

THE CONCERT & PICNIC
Big Shot - Billy Joel Tribute - kicks off 7:00pm. FREE
Picnic: Bring your family & friends, and your dinner, or visit the concession & ice cream truck.
Dessert is Pot-Luck: Bring something to share with friends old & new and Linda Stender.

WORK TOGETHER:

KIDS & FAMILIES: Decorate grocery bags going to food banks. Nake bracelets/write notes to troops (Operation Shoe Box). Make placemats for soup kitchens.

EVERYBODY: Assemble travel-sized personal care bags for families in transition (benefits Interfaith Hospitality Network, Somerset Home for Temp Displaced Youth, Agape House homeless shelter). Stock grocery bags on their way to food banks. River Trail Cleanup (starts 5:15 - dress appropriately, Park Rangers have gloves, bug spray and trash bags).

ALSO ON HAND Red Cross Blood Drive, car seat safety, child fingerprinting, Ridewise project (benefits carpooling & public transit), Somerset Hills Handicapped Riding Center - no-bake horse treats (therapeutic horse riding for disabled individuals)
