Agenda:
WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 15 - LIVE FROM HOFSTRA UNIVERSITY IN NEW YORK - IT'S THE THIRD PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE AND YOU ARE INVITED TO THE LARGEST DEBATE WATCHING PARTY IN PALM BEACH COUNTY
There will be a meeting of Palm Beach County Democracy For America starting at 6:30 PM (open to all DFA members as well as those who may want to become members). At this meeting, we will prioritize and strategize actions that were brainstormed at last months meeting. Doors open to the public at 7:30 PM at the Cocowood Lakes Clubhouse in Delray Beach, and, if you can join us, your presence and your energy will help to get us all fired up and ready to go! Go!! GO!!!
This debate will be moderated by Bob Schieffer, who has been with CBS News since 1969, serving 23 years as anchor on the Saturday edition of CBS Evening News from 1973 to 1996... chief Washington correspondent since 1982, moderator of the Sunday public affairs show Face the Nation since 1991, and, between March 2005 and August 31, 2006, interim weekday anchor of the CBS Evening News. Schieffer is one of the few journalists to have covered all four of the major Washington national assignments: the White House, The Pentagon, United States Department of State, and United States Congress. His career with CBS has almost exclusively dealt with national politics. In 2004, he was the moderator of the third presidential debate between President George W. Bush and Senator John Kerry.
Barack Obama and John McCain will both be seated at a table. The debate be broken into nine, 9-minute segments. The moderator will introduce a topic and allow each candidate 2 minutes to comment. After these initial answers, the moderator will facilitate an open discussion of the topic for the remaining 5 minutes, ensuring that both candidates receive an equal amount of time to comment. At the end of this debate (only) each candidate shall have the opportunity for a 90 second closing statement.
Please join your fellow South Florida Democrats on the evening of Wednesday, October 15, to watch the Third and FINAL Presidential Debate of the 2008 election. It will be projected on to the BIG Movie Screen in the air conditioned clubhouse at Cocowood Lakes. Complimentary Snacks (cookies, crackers, popcorn and candy) along with Beverages (soda and bottled water) will be available and you are also welcome to bring your own food and drink if you'd like. We do ask for a small contribution to offset the costs of this event and more importantly, for the Palm Beach County Democratic Party Coordinated Campaign. We understand the current economic climate and if for any reason you cannot contribute but you can attend, that's what we really want is for you to join with us, share your enthusiasm, let us hear you "oohs" and "ahhs", "hisses" and "boos" because we all feed on each others energy and we certainly will NOT turn anyone away. On the other hand, if you can contribute more, we would be happy to accept any size donation, all of which will go toward the expenses of phone banking, lawn signs, transporting voters to and from the polls... the list is very long and the cost to help our candidates win in November is quite high.
Every month, the Palm Beach Democratic Party shows excellent documentaries that inform while they entertain and inspire activism. There is room for 200 of us to watch the Third Presidential Debate, so, get fired-up and bring plenty of your friends to watch the debate with us. Then in future months, please come back for our critically acclaimed Movie Night series.
