IS THERE A “SCHOOL TO PRISON PIPELINE” AT PASADENA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT?
Soaring dropout rates…rising suspensions and expulsions…police on campus…overly harsh discipline policies (one size fits all)…high poverty rates…court involvement…juvenile detention...all suggest a pipeline to prison is present at P.U.S.D.

At-risk children of color across the nation increasingly face being pushed out of schools, facing unemployment, incarceration and dead end lives. A recent UC Santa Barbara study estimates a cost of $56 million to Pasadena for 329 dropouts in 2006-07 over their lifetimes.

What do we need to do to keep our students out of the pipeline and graduating?

Join us to hear:
Edwin Diaz, Superintendent of P.U.S.D.
Dr. Miriam Krinsky, UCLA School of Public Affairs, former prosecutor
Dr. Mikala Rahn, CEO, Learning Works!, P.U.S.D. charter school for dropouts
Saudeka Shabazz, Children’s Defense Fund, Los Angeles Office
